Hi I'm Maddie

I'm debate president. I'm a Junior in Utah. I'm a Mormon

About Me

My name's Maddie, and I go to a small school in a small town in Utah. I'm debate president, I love to sing in our chamber choir, play piano, and hang out with my crazy friends. I'm currently going to Early College and working towards graduating high school with my Associates, and my goal is to be a high school English teacher!(:

Why I am a Mormon

Around two years ago I was in a really bad spot. Although raised in the church, I started to seriously doubt it, and grew a strong disbelief towards what the church stood for and proclaimed. I went way off course through bad friends, bad habits, and eventually a low self-esteem that came from participating in this things. Then my uncle was diagnosed with brain cancer. Suddenly, my whole world was shaken- the man I had been so close to growing up was facing a disease that would eventually kill him. But, even given that, he was still so positive and happy and loved his God and His gospel more than anything. This really made me think.. and through lots of prayer, sleepless nights, screaming rages about how unfair it all was, and quiet moments where I felt my Father's love for me, I started to become truly converted to the gospel. A month ago, my uncle finally returned home to his Father and Savior- and throughout this heart-breaking event in my young life,I've seen why Casey was so enthusiastic and committed to this religion. I've seen my life turn around in some amazing ways, and I've learned to appreciate our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, in more ways than I could imagine. This church is so true, and it's the most amazing thing you'll ever be apart of. Without it, I never would've gotten closure over Casey's death...I still deal with it every day, to be honest. But Christ's Atonement has brought me comfort- Jesus knows what this hole in my heart feels like, and He knows exactly how to help me see the positive and live my life so that Casey would be proud. I'm a Mormon because without this gospel, I would be nothing.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by fulfilling my duty as a daughter of God through trying to be Christ-like, attending seminary, and standing up for my beliefs at my school and striving to help those around me.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Not all Mormons are required- in fact, the only ones that are required are the men, usually when they're 18 or 19. Women, however, aren't required- and this next bit isn't totally church doctrine, but bear with me. I personally won't be serving a mission..at least in the terms of turning in my papers and leaving for 18 months. However, like the men, I also have a duty that I have to fulfill while on Earth. My divine calling is to be a wife and mother- I like to think of this as my mission. That being said, I'll definitely serve a mission with my husband down the road. Senior couples can also serve, as well as retired men and women. It's not required, but usually these people go. After all, who doesn't love serving the Lord?(: Show more Show less
