Hi I'm Matthew Holladay

I am 21 years old. I am serving a full time mission. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Modesto, California, right down there in the San Joaquin Valley :) I love to play tennis and being outdoors. I really enjoy photography and I was attending BYU-Idaho before I left on my mission. I am now in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church, but at one point I had to find out for myself that it was true. I didn't live what I professed to believe for the majority of my life. I realized I wasn't happy and decided that I needed to find answers to the personal questions I had about life. Through study of the scriptures and through prayer, I came to know that the Gospel had been restored. Joseph Smith was one of many prophets of the Lord, and through him Christ reestablished his complete gospel on the Earth. The Book of Mormon is true, just as is the Bible. My whole life is now centered around Jesus Christ and his teachings. Now I am out in the mission field, helping others come unto the knowledge that I have received, so that they may also feel the blessings that it has brought into my life. I know that the teachings of the Savior can bring nothing but joy into the lives of those that follow them. I am a Mormon, my name is Matthew Holladay, and I believe in Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a full time mission in Pennsylvania. I will be here for next two years, offering service and helping others come unto Christ. Every day I get to teach people about His gospel and the restoration of it's fullness in our time. I share another testament of Jesus Christ called the Book of Mormon, that works with the Bible to attest to the reality and divinity of our Savior. It is such a blessing to me that I have this knowledge and I want everyone else to have it as well. We can feel peace through repentance, we can live meaningful lives of service and love, and we will all live again, through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Matthew Holladay
The world is constantly changing. People think differently, someone is always coming up with a "better" answer to the same question, and society is constantly pushing each of us to be one way or to be another way. God does not change. He never will. Because life is confusing, and we are distracted by opinions of others around us, our Heavenly Father has provided a way for us to know what the truth is and where to turn for guidance. It is the way that He has given mankind from the very beginning. He calls men that are worthy and willing to testify of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Without prophets, we would have no scripture, and therefore no idea of who God is or why we are here. And because God never changes, He does not discontinue the blessings of prophets, so long as His children are worthy of such a blessing and heed the words of His messengers. There is a prophet on the earth today because God love us. After the death of Christ's original Apostles, the world as a whole rejected the authority that the Apostles, whom were also prophets, were given. Because of that rejection, error crept into the teachings of the church, and the fullness of the Gospel was lost. When our Father saw we were once again ready for a prophet, He called a new representative to teach us. And since Joseph Smith, we have continued to have prophets up until this present day. It is such a blessing in my life for me to know that God still loves all of His children and blesses us with prophets. Show more Show less

What is the First Vision?

Matthew Holladay
Many people believe that God does not speak to His children anymore. Why that is, I do not know. Do they think He can't? That He won't? That He doesn't need to? Our Father in Heaven is omnipotent, infinitely affectionate toward us, and knows we need all the help we can get. A young boy believed that he could receive answers from God if he asked. The Bible says, "Ask and ye shall receive." So this boy acted on faith. In his struggle to find truth, his way in the world, and his eternal salvation, Joseph Smith decided he needed to seek the help of his Father in Heaven through prayer. He went to a private, secluded wood by his home in Palmyra, New York, and offered the kind of sincere prayer only someone as humble as a child could offer. His question, "Which church should I join?" was answered. To his amazement, as he offered this prayer, he relates to us that he "saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun." He continued, "I saw two personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description...One of them spake unto me, calling me by name, and said, pointing to the other, 'This is my beloved Son. Hear Him!'" This young boy was visited by our Father and our Savior. He was informed that all the churches had fallen from the organization and authority that Jesus Christ had left with the Apostles. This humble boy was called to be a servant of the Most High. I know that this is true. I know this happened. I testify of it in the name of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Matthew Holladay
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the way that we are saved. Jesus suffered for my sins, and for yours, in the Garden of Gethsemane. There the scriptures say that He fell and His face and sweat blood. In this agony, He felt each of our individual struggles, trials, and pain. After this time in the garden, He was taken to the cross, and crucified. He died there, and His spirit left His body. 3 days later, the two were reunited, and death's sting was forever defeated. Christ offers us access to this infinite pool of mercy. All He asks is that we live His gospel, showing our faith in Him by repenting, being baptized by someone to whom He has granted His authority, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost by that same authority, and striving to live faithfully to His commandments for the rest of our lives. Through these things we are cleansed of our sins, we grow every day, and we will return to Christ and God, our Eternal Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
