Hi I'm Robert Close

I grew up in Las Vegas Nevada. I am a school guidance counselor. I am a convert to the Mormon Church.

About Me

I grew up in Las Vegas Nevada. I love sports of all kinds, especially wrestling, water skiing, and baseball. I am especially busy working with children in the elementary schools. Children are growing up in a very fast world and it is fun to help them learn the coping skills that they need to be resilient and conquer the fears and hurdles that come their way. I have 3 grown children and a one still at home. I have a beautiful and wonderful wife. She is an artist. She especially enjoys water color. Our family is enjoying our daughter who is an amazing young harpist. It is especially awesome to watch our children grow and become their own special person. We live in a rural neighborhood with lots of wildlife and good hearty farmers and independent hard working folks around. I enjoy being part of a wonderful community.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that did not belong to a particular faith. Missionaries knocked on our door when I was about 10 years old. My dad and mom had them come in to teach us. When they taught us I was impressed by their simple but profound message. 1. The ancient church of Christ had a "falling away" from Christ's gosphel teachings and authority. 2. God recently visited the earth and has once again called prophets and apostles to restore his kingdom and has organized his people to finish his wok and lead us back to His presence. 3. We can be blessed with baptism and the gift of the holy ghost and have Gods Spirt to guide our lives. 4. God is calling all men and women to the safety of his fold. 5. We can be a part of His great work. 6. Christ will come to the earth when the earth is prepared for Him. 7. We can be blessed by serving one another. 8. If we love God and follow His gospel we will be happy in this life and in our eternal life to come. 9. Familes can be together forever. 10. Many wonderful people are ready to help me. The message was so exciting. I felt the sweet feelings of God touch my whole soul. I was so happy and I couldn't wait to be part of such a wonderful message. I joined the church shortly after. With the help of the church It was easier to stay away from drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, lying, cheating, and other evils rampant in Las Vegas. My sight has been focused on Christ. When I fell short I relyed on my Savior to help me to repent and grow closer to God. The church helped me to have wonderful wholesome growing experiences. I became active in a young men's priesthood quorum, Scouting, Gospel classes. I was blessed by serving a 2 year volunteer mission. I Married my sweet-heart. We raised 4 beautiful daughters and we look forward to being an eternal family in the next life. I have been so blessed by this amazing restored gospel of Christ. I love to share it with others. It's a marvelous work and a wonder prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 29:14)

How I live my faith

My wife and I work with Mormon youth who attend Brigham Young University Idaho. We are pleased to see these young people working so hard on their education. We also get to witness their zeal and desire to serve God. They are generally happy, fun, sincere, and kind. They all seem to be seeking to follow the Savior. It is a joy to serve them as much as I can. I am one of two counselors that help the Bishop or spiritual leader of our Ward or congregation. In our congregation we ask every student and member to fulfill a church assignment. I have never had a student decline to help. Working and fulfilling assignments in the church is a way of life that brings blessing to those who serve and those that are being blessed by the service. It allows us to feel close to one another. Our congregation feels like a large family. Last month there were a couple of young women who had car problems. The young men hurried over to help them. That is just how things work in the church. We are always ready to help and lend a hand. Some teach lessons, some lead the many activities of the church such as Home Teaching, Women's Service groups, Family History groups, Sunday School, Men's service groups, activities groups, and many other church callings that help our members. I especially like the Home Evening groups. Every student belongs to a group of about 12 student. They gather together every Monday like a family, and have prayer, gospel lessons, activities, and treats. It is so fun when the groups come to our home. We try to spoil them with fun activities and food. They bring the spiritual lessons and lots of energy and they always have a deep and abiding testimony of the Savior that they often share with us. It is fun to share our love of the gospel of Jesus Christ with whom ever we can. I love to serve my Savior as I extend my hand to my family, friends, congregation, and all my neighbors. I feel the love of the Savior and realize that God is the Father of every person on earth.
