Hi I'm Ben

I am from Kaysville, UT. I am 4 weeks into a nine week stay at the MTC. I will be going to the Taiwan Taichung mission.

About Me

I graduated from Davis High School with the class of 2014 which was the 100th graduating class. I was in the marching band, originally I played baritone but I switched to trombone. I marched in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade. I am a certified Emergency Medical Technician, although I haven't been working as one yet. I am planning on studying medicine in college after my mission. I am a recovered pornography addict and attended the Sons of Helaman program as well as one on one therapy with a counselor. I am currently in the MTC learning Mandarin Chinese so that I can go to the Taiwan Taichung Mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church. My family has been members for several generations on both sides. My mom's family immigrated from Switzerland and Finland and my dad's family came from Sweden. I was raised in the church but wasn't very committed to it. Through a struggle with pornography it became very difficult for me to become very invested in the church. When I was fourteen I began the Sons of Helaman program and began working on overcoming my addiction. Obviously there were many periods of ups and downs but during my senior year of High School I saw several of my friends preparing their mission papers and it gave me the inspiration to kick it into gear. It took nearly a year but finally my papers were in and I am now in the MTC getting ready to go to the Taiwan Taichung Mission.

How I live my faith

I attended the Sons of Helaman program for recovering pornography addicts. The program focuses on giving young men a strong supportive base to draw strength from, and providing the tools to stay strong in the fight against pornography. I have received my Patriarchal Blessing. I read my scriptures and say my prayers every night. I am abiding my the rules of the Missionary Handbook, taking advantage of my study time and I am loving it. The Spirit at the MTC is absolutely incredible! If you want to know what being around 1500 or so people that all have temple recommends and have the Spirit around them, go on a mission and be at the MTC.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a compilation of the records of the people of the of Nephi from the time that Lehi, Nephi's father, took his family from Jerusalem until the Nephites were destroyed. Throughout their history, the Nephites were instructed to "be a record keeping people." Just prior to the Nephites destruction due to their wickedness, one prophet, Mormon, was the only righteous Nephite left. He was the prophet and was tasked with taking all of the records of the Nephites and editing them so that only the most important records were saved. This compilation became the Book of Mormon, which was written on gold plates and was hidden from those who destroyed the Nephites. Hundreds of years later, a young man named Joseph Smith was shown by an angel where the plates were hidden. He was taught by the angel and later was instructed to retrieve the plates and was the conduit through which the plates were translated through the spirit of God into the Book of Mormon that we know today. So, to make a long story short, the gold plate records of the Nephites were condensed by Mormon to form the gold plates. Then Joseph Smith, through the knowledge and power of God, translated the plates and printed the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
