Hi I'm Sam Murphy

I was born in Texas and raised in Southern California. I love sports and music and write song lyrics. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I was born in Texas and raised in southern California. I am the oldest of 5 kids. My family means a whole lot to me and has shaped who I am today. I am currently attending college in Idaho as a math education major. I grew up playing many different sports, primarily basketball and volleyball. I played 4 years of volleyball in high school. I love listening to and discovering music. Some of my favorite bands are Minus the Bear, Death Cab for Cutie, Twenty One Pilots, The Killers, Portugal. The Man, Two Door Cinema Club, and Motion City Soundtrack, among many others. I also enjoy writing my own original lyrics.

Why I am a Mormon

Originally, I was a Mormon because that's what my parents taught me. They taught me about Christ and the Book of Mormon and I readily accepted their teachings. However, there have been moments in my life when I wanted to know for myself if the teachings I had been raised on were true. Each time I prayed and questioned God if the church and its teachings were true, I was reassured by the Holy Ghost that everything I had been taught was true. My faith in Christ has grown over the years and now I am a Mormon because I want to follow Christ and His teachings. I know that this church teaches the truth and how to be able to live with God after this life.

How I live my faith

My first opportunity to serve in the church came as a teacher teaching gospel principles to 8 and 9 year olds. It was a very special and rewarding experience. Later I served 2 years as a full-time missionary for the church in Puebla, Mexico. It was amazing to teach people about Christ and help them improve and find meaning in their lives. When I came home I was able to serve closely with the missionaries in my home town, helping young adults learn more about our church and our beliefs.
