Hi I'm Claire

I am a university student. I'm studying jazz piano. I love music in every form. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was adopted into a very loving family when I was just a baby. I grew up on an acreage by a small town where everyone knows everyone. I used to love going out with my dad and learning all about the animals and plants that we raised and learning about how the world works. I still love nature walks to this day, and love being able to learn new things. I love reading books and poetry, hiking, horseback riding, karate, and music. I started piano lessons when I was in Grade two, and am still continuing my education in that in university. I'm a composition major in the jazz piano program at my university. I love the way that music can speak without having to say anything. Even though my life has been very blessed, I'm no stranger to struggles both physical and spiritual. My father developed a mental illness when I was still in high school and that was very difficult for me and my family to go through, but by relying on the strength and grace of God we were able to become stronger as a family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and as a result of this many people ask me if that's the only reason I stay in the church and continue to follow its standards. My answer is a resounding no. I continue to go to church every week because I can feel close to Heavenly Father there. I have seen His hand guiding my life to the people I need to meet and experiences I need to have in order for me to grow and develop into what he wants me to be. I've felt his love, and the peace he gives surround me as I was on my knees praying to know whether or not He was really there. I've felt comfort through his grace when I was grieving for a very dear friend, and struggling with the pain that I was carrying. I have felt His love in the quiet moments when I study the scriptures. Because of all the experiences that I have had to go through, I know that He is always with me, no matter what mistakes I make, no matter what His love is always there. I know that Christ suffered for our sins, and all of our pains and afflictions so he knows, he knows what it feels like to be sad and alone and feel like the world is crashing down on your head. He knows because he has been there too. He did it so he can be there for us, so that we have someone to turn to when we are struggling, pained, and grieving. There is never a time when we are separated from the love of Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be as much like Christ everyday as I can. I try to be friendly and kind to everyone that I pass in my day, because you never know when a simple gesture like a smile, or friendly hello will make someone's day or touch their heart. I grew up going to church every week and was involved in many of the weekly youth activities we had. I especially loved being able to go to the temple and do baptisms for the dead. I try to give service as much as I can by sharing my talents. Very often I am asked to play a hymn for church and my calling in the church is to be the pianist for our ward's choir. Every month I do visiting teaching and it is an amazing opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I often find that I learn more preparing the lessons I share, than the sisters I teach do. Being a friend to those who don't have any was one of the many things Christ taught by example, and I try to follow his example the best I can.
