Hi I'm Tanya

I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I'm an elementary school teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up Pennsylvania, but I currently live in Florida because I love the warm weather and the beach. I'm an elementary school teacher. I love watch movies. I enjoy home decorating and other DIY crafts. I have a little dog named Chloe who has a little too much energy for her own good. I'm recently married and love being a wife.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in the gospel's teachings. I know my purpose in life and how to return to my Heavenly Father. I am a Mormon because I want to be with my family forever. Through the covenants made in the temple, I know that I can be. I am a Mormon because it gives me strength and comfort when life's trials occur. It doesn't shield me, or take away the parts of life that are hard and difficult, it just gives me support and love to know that I will be stronger when I overcome them. I know my Heavenly Father knows me personally.

How I live my faith

My faith is a huge part of my life. I currently serve in my church as a counselor in the Young Women's organization. This involves teaching and counseling the 12-18 year old girls in my local church, or ward. Working with the youth is probably the best calling I've ever had. I love their sense of humor, their personalities, and watching them learn and grow. I feel like I have grown in my faith by learning from them. I also serve in the LDS Orlando Temple twice a month. In the temple I work so other members can participate in making sacred ordinances. It has been a huge commitment and sacrifice to drive to Orlando and serve in the temple two Saturdays in the month, but by doing so I have seen how the Lord has blessed my life. My husband and I were sealed in the temple a year ago. This means we are married for time and all eternity. When I serve in the temple, I remember those covenants I made to my husband and remember that I will be blessed to be with him after this life.

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Tanya
I attend church every Sunday to partake in the sacrament and continue to grow in my knowledge of the gospel through Sunday School and other classes. Weekly church attendance helps me build my faith and grow closer to my Heavenly Father. The temple is were I go to make and keep sacred covenants such as when I was sealed and married to my husband. I first attended the temple to participate in ordinances for myself. I return to the temple to help others receive their ordinances. The temple is sacred and the House of the Lord. Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Tanya
We believe that our body is a gift and should be cared for. I want to stay in control of my own body so my mind can be clear and my body can be strong. Through modern revelation through a Prophet, Joseph Smith, we believe that God gave us the Word of Wisdom to help us care for our bodies. I don't drink coffee, tea, or alcohol because the Lord counseled us not to in the Word of Wisdom and I have made a promise to the Lord that I will follow the Word of Wisdom. I have been blessed in my life by following this principle. Show more Show less
