Hi I'm Dan

I love music, swing dancing, and yo-yos. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Hey guys, I love music! I've been involved in orchestras since 6th grade playing the viola and choirs since 7th. I've played the piano since I was about 9 years old and music is one of my passions. I love performing church hymns and classical pieces because of the feelings you get from them, and the wonderful messages that cause you to reflect on your life. I also love to play modern yo-yoing (my favorite styles are 1A and 5A) and enjoy competing. I used to run track and field (hurdles and jumps) and I really enjoy running! Last of my hobbies is social dancing, specifically swing dancing. It's one of my favorite things to do and always makes me smile. I have been called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Korea, Daejeon mission leaving June 2014! I'm very excited to be serving the Lord and I know that Korea is where the Lord needs me. Missionary work has always been something I've wanted to do and it's so exciting to finally have the chance. I encourage all youth who may not be sure if they should go on a mission, to start preparing now. The best way to find out if it's right for you is to find out what it will be like and through thoughtful prayer and study. I would strongly recommend you do so. Missionary work creates happiness and is the catalyst for positive change. "If ye have desires to serve God, ye are called to the work."-D&C 4.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the teachings of this religion make me feel happy. Whenever I follow the counsel of the prophet and the apostles, or study the scriptures (and other such things) I feel happy and I feel like it's really benefiting me as a person. I like to think of my religion as one of self-improvement, and nearly everything about it helps a person improve themselves and their relationships with others. I can testify that as you follow this counsel that you will be able to feel God's love for you through ordinary people. One of my favorite quotes illustrates this wonderfully, "In many instances Heavenly Father answers another persons prayers through us, through our kind words and deeds, through our simple acts of service." I know that what that says is true, because I've experienced it through my callings and through other people who have lifted me up or someone else up. I love this Gospel and I'm so glad to be a part of it. I know that the Book of Mormon is true because every time I read and study it, I gain a new perspective on my life and it always applies to my life. It inspires me each time I read and I know it is God's word. I know that the Book of Mormon and the Bible go hand in hand and that when these two holy books of scripture are used together, we can gain a witness and testimony of Jesus Christ and His prophets. I know that Thomas S. Monson is God's chosen prophet today and I know this because of the good feeling I have when I listen and study the counsel he gives us as well as those of the other apostles. They are called of God and I know that they help us learn what God wants us to know at this specific time in our lives. I know God is real, and I am so grateful for Him. I love Him, and it always makes me happy when I notice His hand in my daily life, through connections, smiles, and love. I love this church and I love Jesus Christ. He is my elder brother and I know He lives. I say these things, in His name, Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

I served on the Seminary Council for our high school and in our Young Men's group ages 16-18. As a council, we discuss the needs of the seminary and strive to implement positive and meaningful practices, share inspired messages, and reach out to people that may feel alone or are struggling in some way. We do this by working with the teachers, specific students in their classes, and by going and serving as a council. I've seen some positive things come out of this Council and I'm really grateful to be a part of it. It's been a very good experience and has been wonderful mission preparation. I'm served in our Young Men's group in the presidency where we did similar things to the Seminary Council: we sought out boys that were struggling and tried to include and uplift them, serve members of our community, and strive to create an environment where the Spirit is present in Church meetings and other places as much as we can. I am currently on my mission and I'm loving it! It has brought me so much closer to God and has helped me realized the importance of the Spirit and how much it blesses our lives. It is such an amazing gift, never take it for granted! Strive to be worth of His holy companionship and I promise that you and those around you will be richly blessed, because the Spirit testifies, comforts, and prompts us with God's word and His specific work for you!
