Hi I'm Rick

I'm a convert to the Church. I am a husband, father, grandfather, banker, runner, and golfer. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a bank president, and have spent my entire career in the banking industry. I am married to my best friend, and we have six children and three grandchildren - with two more on the way. I love to run (did my first marathon in 2009), golf and relax with our family. I have an MBA with an emphasis in finance, and an undergraduate degree in marketing and economics. I served a mission for the Church in Peru, South America, so I speak Spanish. We have lived in Michigan, Texas, New Jersey, Minnesota and California. I love learning, overcoming challenges, and striving to apply the principles of happiness in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Lutheran, and attended Lutheran school through the eighth grade. I remember having some questions that my parents could not answer - like "why did a God with no physical body create a world full of people with bodies?" Or, will we still be a family after this life is over? Or, what is the purpose of life? When I went off to college, I really didn't attend church, and just went on with my life. Then, during my junior year of college, I met a female student and started to date her. One day on campus she said that there was something she wanted to tell me. She turned to me and said, "I want you to know that I know that my Church is true." As she said those words, something stirred inside of me, and I felt that what she had said was true. I felt a peace that I could not understand. And yet I could not understand how she could make such a claim, given the hundreds of different denominations on the earth. Later I met with the missionaries and they taught me four lessons about the purpose of life, the restoration of the gospel on the earth, the role of the Savior as our Redeemer, and the blessings of the commandments. They also gave me a copy of the Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the account of the Savior's dealings with the people who lived on the American continent in ancient times. It joins with the Bible as a second witness of the Savior. The missionaries promised that if I would read it, and pray about it, I would know that it is true. So I took the test. I read, studied and pondered about it. And then I prayed about it. And I received my answer. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Savior's true Church, restored to the earth in these latter days through a prophet of God. I know that there is a purpose to life. I know that we are led today by living apostles and prophets. Accordingly, I was baptized in March of 1976.

How I live my faith

I serve as a leader in the Church, presiding over a number of congregations. I am also a Home Teacher, responsible for visiting and caring for a few families in our local congregation. I really enjoy spending time with them and helping them in any way I can. The greatest opportunity to live my faith is within the four walls of our home. Nothing brings greater joy than overcoming self and turning outward to the needs of my family members. It is not an easy thing to do, but is the most rewarding. There is no greater happiness in my life than that which comes from being a righteous husband and father.
