Hi I'm Zach

I grew up in Utah, served as a missionary in Barranquilla Colombia, studying to be a mechanical Engineer and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm a student right now studying to become a mechanical engineer. I have always been good at math and have loved learning how things work. I love to do things out doors like mountain biking, four-wheeling, hiking, and just being a witness to the beauty the earth has to offer. I have also enjoyed playing video games, especially the ones that challenge me a little mentally. I am currently single but i come from a big family with 5 siblings. My family is the greatest source of joy especially my nieces and nephews.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for many reasons. I grew up in the church but that is not the reason i have stayed. A point came in my life where i doubted if this was the true church and i knew i would have to find out for myself. The first thing i noticed was that no one was trying to convince me through scripture or their word that this church was true but gave me the challenge to pray and ask God myself. I read the Book of Mormon on my own for the first time instead of just with my family and started marking scriptures i liked in it. I prayed many times about it not really feeling an answer. I hadn't realized that to get the answer I had to accept what that answer would mean, as it says in the front part of the Book of Mormon know it is true stands as a testament that Jesus is the Christ, that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that this is the true Church upon the earth. Only when I committed to follow that answer did i finally get it. I have since felt that answer many times again in my life through church movies, testimonies of others and serving in the church. I haven't always been the best church member but the one thing i have always felt is that it is a place that i can be forgiven and that no matter where i am in the world that there is a place that i will be accepted for who i am, weaknesses and all. I had the wonderful opportunity to be a missionary for this wonderful church in the great country of Colombia. This was one of my biggest testimony builders as i got to see how this gospel can really turn peoples lives around. I have felt the joys of following the commandments and sorrows of sin but both have helped in me gaining a testimony that this is the true church of God and of Christ.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the church my whole life and have loved it. One of the biggest things i love about this church is how involved every one is in activities, classes, and all aspects of the church. I have had many different positions in the church from organizing weekly activities for a small group of young single adults to helping organize sunday school classes. One of my favorite is a calling every member has which is we are each assigned a member family from the same congregation and are encouraged to visit them once a month and share a message with them and serve them in any way possible. Its a great way to get to know these people and to always give people a good friend. Many times teaching them i get taught something as well as i feel the spirit helping me teach lessons. I also love the relationship the church has with the boy scouts. Some of my fondest memories growing up is with the kids in my scout troop and all the adventures we had together. I have camped for a full week, climbed to very high places, learned to scuba dive, seen some of the coolest places, and made some of my greatest friendships because of scouts. In scouts we often got the opportunity to serve our community in many different ways which as a teenager I was always excited to do but i always learned a very valuable lesson each time we did. My troop leaders were the best and helped me and many of my friends to obtain our eagle scouts at very young ages. The main thing i have learned through all these things is selflessness. We do all these things to help others feel the love of Christ and by doing so we also feel that same love.
