Hi I'm Matt Ruttan

I have a passion for music and the outdoors. I try to brighten everyone's day, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 18 and I have graduated from High School. I am the youngest of three and have grown up in the gospel. I have taken the year off to work to gain funds to become a missionary. I will be serving in the Birmingham mission as of May. I have grown up in Victoria all my life. Through out all these years I have developed a very strong relationship with three other boys. We do everything together. We have gone through all of the Scouting Program-Cubs,Scouts,Ventures we have been through it all. Achieving the Chief Scout Award along with the Queens Venturer Award was an honor but it was nothing compared to the friendship developed all those years. Naturally through the Scouting program I have come to love the great outdoors. I am so blessed to live in such a beautiful place, where I can go and marvel at God's creations. Everything around us is made by His hand, He has given us so much. Heavenly Father has blessed me with many gifts, but one to take note of would be that of music. I have been raised in a family where my parents would not impose anything upon me but rather open the door and create opportunities for my own self to seek out. I have always struggled to learn how to read music, and I did take piano lessons however I never committed myself to accomplish the theory homework. It was at the age of 12 did I realize my ability to create music. I can play by ear but hardly read the notes on the page. Every time I sit down at a piano I create a new song that I have never heard.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this is who I am. I could never be where I am today with out the gospel of Christ within my life. Being from a small school of about 650 I was the only one in my school who was of my faith. This never made it hard for me to stand up for what I believe. I was able to make friends regardless and was able to get along with pretty much everyone. Because of the size of the school most, if not all, knew who I was and that I did things a little differently. I didn't attend any choir or band events that fell upon Sundays, I didn't go out to any parties involving drinking or bad atmospheres. People new me for my voice/music, and for my way to make everyone smile. Because of my faith, people see me as different; but as a good different. I know that what I do is for not only good but the right. The reason why I put myself out there is because I know that this church is true. I could never build up enough courage to do what I have done, and will do, with out the Lord helping me. I know that Heavenly Father Loves you and that he cares. He will always help you. The hardest trial may be upon you, or may be still to come but never give up, because He wont. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church. It has helped me come to know my self, my creator and my savior better; and with out that I feel I would be surly nothing. My name is Matthew Ruttan, I am a child of God and I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live what I believe by going about and doing good. As Christians we are commanded to love our neighbor and do good unto others. I take it upon myself to do this everyday, wherever and whenever. Those who I pass on the street I greet with a friendly hello and smile. Everyone that comes through the place where I work, I put forth my best and make them feel welcomed and loved. I try to exemplify Christ in my life, so that when people look at me they may come to know Christ more easily. Service is a perfect way to share the Love of Christ. Theses Charitable acts of selflessness can be anything from raking someones leaves to baking cookies and surprising them by leaving them to find it at there doorstep. "...ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God” - King Benjamin (Mosiah 2:17). Other than just brightening everyone's day about me, I love to speak through music. It is a funny thing how you can share something with out saying a word at all, or in other cases speaking directly to them. Music speaks volumes and this is how I communicate. I love good wholesome music. It is something that is within me, and something I dare not to ever get rid of. I know that when I play on the piano the songs flow through me. Not just because I am making it up on the spot, not just because I have no idea what and how I am doing it, but because it is through some greater power that defies all description. I know that when I play it is the Holy Ghost that helps me guide my hands. I put my all into what I do, and it shines forth. It is through examples that we can know of truth and goodness, we just have to seek it out an test it for ourselves to be true.
