Hi I'm Shelby

I have lived in Utah all of my life. I will soon serve a mission in San Antonio, Texas. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

In June I was called to serve in the Texas San Antonio Mission! I leave for the Provo Missionary Training Center on September 3rd! I am so excited to serve the Lord and tell the people I will meet how much happiness this Gospel has brought me! I just finished my first year at college studying Biology. I was involved with the Pre-Med Club on campus and loved all of the opportunities it gave me to serve. One of my favorite activities we did was visit a children's hospital to put on a little carnival for the kids. I loved working with them and trying to make their day better. I've also found out some what recently that I love working with those with special needs. I was lucky enough to be a special needs tutor for my entire senior year of high school, and loved every second of it! I absolutely believe I learned more from them than they probably did from me. They don't care about social statuses, or looks, or anything that the world would focus on; they just love you for you. They are perfect spirits. As for sports, I been involved with soccer, softball, tennis, and dancing, but I love watching any kind of game. I also love to break out my guitar whenever I have the chance. I absolutely love my family, and we have so much fun together! I have countless memories of playing games with them, and laughing until we are all crying and can't even speak. We go on multiple camping trips every year, and get to get away from the world together and just focus on each other.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. It's really that simple. Even though I have grown up in the church, I have come to know for myself, through my own experiences and trials, that this is the true church, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. My parents got divorced when I was about 11, and it shook my faith a ton. I was angry and confused, so I stopped praying and reading my scriptures, and I was bitter about going to church every Sunday. I knew I needed to be strong for my little sisters, so I held all of that anger and sadness in for years. But it destroyed my spirit. I could tell that something needed to change. I needed to let my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ back into my life. As soon as I made that choice, I could feel Him giving me the strength that I couldn't give myself. I soon realized that no matter what was going on it my life, He was there, and ready with open arms to help me get through the trials that would be to hard to bare on my own. I was happy again! And I have never stopped feeling that happiness since I made the choice to find out for myself if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. Of course there are things in life that make me sad because life is not perfect, but then I pray to my Heavenly Father to give me the strength and courage I need to feel happy again. And it's not a happiness I could find anywhere else. It's an overwhelming feeling of happiness and peace, that only comes from this gospel.

How I live my faith

I think the way I feel the spirit the most is through music. I was part of the choir at the Institute I attended at during college, and was blessed every single day through it. We participated in many firesides, devotionals, sometimes we sang in seminaries, and every time we performed I felt the spirit so strongly! I know that the spirit was there to touch the lives of those we sang for, and I could see it in their faces, and feel it in the room. The songs we were blessed to be able to sing had such amazing lyrics that were truly inspired and teach me so much about the gospel. Since college, I have been focusing more on preparing for my mission in Texas. Studying the scriptures has not only helped to prepare me, but has helped me feel the spirit so much more strongly everyday! I have also been a book called "Our Heritage" which is about the history of the church, and how it came to be on the Earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. It is amazing!
