Hi I'm Audree Van Valkenburg

I'm a student, biology lover, swimmer, and missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently in that stage of life where I am trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of it. I am the oldest of 5 children and get to forge the way into adulthood for my other siblings. In this search to discover what I want to do and be, I have discovered that I love learning. I love the joy that comes from finding out something new. As such, I want to do something where I get to be a constant learner. I also love aquatic biology and will continue studying fisheries when I return home from my mission. The more I learn about living things, the more I realize how incredibly blessed we are to live and grow. I appreciate life more by learning about it. I also swam for 7 years through elementary school and high school. I was blessed with wonderful parents who allowed me to do that. I am currently serving a mission in the Canada Edmonton mission. I love inviting people to take that step of faith to learn about the restored gospel. My mission really has been the most rewarding experience of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have come to know the truth in the gospel personally. Both of my parents are faithful members. However, I have doubted whether or not this gospel was true in the past. I wondered whether my faith came from my own heart wishing it was true or from the reassurance of my Father in Heaven. As a preteen, I prayed for comfort and help to know. I read in the scriptures, received answers, and felt peace. My confidence that God lives and this is his church has grown through multiple experiences. Looking back, I see God's hand in my life. A job given. A scholarship received. A family who loves me. A best friend who listens and loves me as well. An opportunity for education. A trial that helps me relate. A feeling of peace. I continue going to church because I live it for myself. I am serving a mission, for I know that God loves me and all of his children. It would be selfish of me if I did not invite others to realize God's love for them as well. God lives. He loves us. Christ died for our sins so that we may live with our Heavenly Father again if we live the gospel. That is why I strive to be the best person that I can be. Joseph Smith is a prophet. He translated the Book of Mormon so that God could speak to us through it. I notice the eternal truths in this book when I read it. It is of God and it testifies of Christ. I read it so that I can learn what I can do to follow His footsteps. I love this gospel and the person it is shaping me to be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to live as Christ lived. Of course, I am not perfect. He was the only perfect one. As long as I am trying every day to live humbly like Christ, I am doing my best to live my faith. On a daily basis, I pray and study the scriptures. I also live my faith by sharing it with people. As missionaries, we invite others to come unto Christ. This helps me because it strengthens my testimony of God's love and the divine truth of the message I get to share. This gospel has blessed my life and I live my faith by sharing it, serving others, and constantly trying to improve myself.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Audree Van Valkenburg
I have come to know that our Heavenly Father wants to talk with us. However, it is up to us to put forth the first effort. One of my favorite scriptures is "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" (Matthew 7:7). All of these words, ask, seek, and knock are verbs. Action words. They are directed at the reader. So, in order to know our Father in Heaven, there must be a desire for a relationship on our end. Think about your relationship with your mother. Hopefully she loves you and desires to have a relationship with you. That is impossible if you don't act likewise. I like to draw parallels between the different ways that we can come to know our Heavenly Father. Pray: This is how we talk to Him. We can tell him our fears, our desires - anything. He always listens. It is similar to sending an email to a friend. It is in their inbox. However, when they reply is up to them. Read: Heavenly Father talks to us through inspired texts and words. This includes words of prophets and the scriptures. When looking for an answer after you have prayed, the best way is to seek it out is to read and search for it. The reply is similar to finding an answer in the scriptures. Live the commandments: In any relationship, gifts are exchanged to show love. These can be physical or just simply meaningful. It is meaningful to Heavenly Father when we follow His commandments. Expressions of love are most special through actions rather than words. Show more Show less
