Hi I'm Austin Ray Mitchell

I'm from California. I love baseball. I love everything that has to do with Lord of the Rings and Batman. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a student at BYU-Idaho majoring in Biology with an emphasis in Human Biology. My goal is to one day become a surgeon and help save the lives of the many patients who I will have the opportunity to work with. In my free time I like to listen to music and read. Baseball is my favorite sport and if I have the chance I love to go out and throw the ball around.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and had wonderful parents who loved and cared about me. When I was two my parents got a divorce and so I did the going back and forth thing for a long time throughout my childhood. It was tough but I also got presents from both parents so I wasn't going to complain. My dad continued to attend church after the divorce, however my mom didn't. The court ended up ruling custody in favor of my dad. When I was 14 we moved to California and I got into the wrong group of friends. I started using drugs and alcohol and decided I wanted to live with my mom where my lifestyle was not as looked down upon. She also lived in California and my decisions worsened from there. After becoming atheist and having a normal use of drugs and alcohol, I felt like something was missing from my life. My girlfriend at the time was a Mormon and encouraged me to start attending church. I listened to her advice and started going every Sunday. At the beginning I felt nothing and couldn't wait for the 3 hours to be over. However, after a month or so I started to feel that light that I had been without for so long. My girlfriend moved away and I continued to attend church. I loved every Sunday and looked forward to the meetings. I visited with my bishop and cleaned out all of my skeletons promising myself and our Heavenly Father that I would never turn back. Since then, I have received the Melchizedek Priesthood, given numerous blessing, gotten my mom to start attending church again, and have been sober for a year. I love my Savior and I thank him everyday for allowing me to overcome the obstacles I put in my own way. Without the Atonement I would be cast out and I would never be able to live with my family forever.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday by trying to be an example to those around me. I am definitely not perfect but my goal is to help others be better and in turn that will make me better.
