Hi I'm Jacob

I attend BYU. I love basketball, the beach, and snowboarding. I will serve a mission in Santiago, Chile. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in sunny Southern California, but for my senior year of high school I moved up near the Bay Area, which was a challenging and teaching experience. I love all sports and played Varsity basketball and volleyball in high school. I love camping, hiking, and exploring the world. This was helpful in my path to becoming an Eagle Scout. I currently attend Brigham Young University in Utah and am studying Political Science. I currently want to be a political consultant. I have a younger brother, 3 older sisters in a row, and another brother who is the oldest. I am an uncle and love spending time with my niece and nephews.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me a better person. Every day I wake up with a resolution to be more Christlike. I know that Jesus is our Savior and that he died for us. I am happy because of the gospel and my knowledge of God's plan for me. When I am down on life I remember the sacrifice Christ made for me. I was raised a Mormon, but I had to gain a testimony of my faith on my own. No single incident or event gave me a testimony. My testimony of what I know has grown step by step due to the experiences I have had. I am choosing to serve a mission because I want to share what has made me happy with the people of Chile.

How I live my faith

In high school most of my friends were not Mormon, so to live my faith I gave my best effort at being Christlike. At BYU I was surrounded by other Mormons, but I still had the opportunity to set an example to my awesome roommate who is not Mormon. He came to BYU from Bulgaria on a volleyball scholarship and I have tried to be a resource he could trust when he needed answers to questions. I conducted the meetings for the young men in my church congregation and taught occasionally as well. I just received my mission call to serve in the Santiago South, Chile mission. I am preparing for this upcoming opportunity every day by reading the scriptures and practicing my Spanish.

What is being a Mormon like?

Jacob
Being a Mormon is great! We believe in the importance of family and being the best person you can possibly be. People say that to be a Mormon you can't do certain things. This is true. Mormons do not drink alcohol, coffee, or use illegal drugs. We believe in chastity and fidelity in marriage. However, Mormons believe our sole purpose here on Earth is to have joy. We find joy in Christ, serving one another, and doing our personal best. I recently returned from Brigham Young University which has an honor code that follows the guidelines of the Church and I can honestly say it was the most enjoyable year of my life. I made so many friends and participated in so many fun activities! By keeping God's commandments we are able to enjoy all the blessings God has to offer us. Show more Show less
