Hi I'm Shanda

I am a cancer fighter/survivor, mom, and wife...and I am a mormon!

About Me

I am a mom, wife, cancer survivor/fighter, tennis player, zumba instructor, a whitewater kayaker, and so much more. I love life and appreciate the greatness of each day...

Why I am a Mormon

I did not grow up as a part of this religion. I lived in the south much of my life were there were very vocal preachers and churches on nearly every corner. I was intrigued by faith, but didn't know quite where I fit or what church was true. I attended several churches before becoming Mormon. I found good things in so many, but there were certain things that didn't feel right about each. One day, missionaries came to my door and I wanted to hear what they had to say. I had such a good feeling and felt like I needed to know more. I prayed to know if the principles they taught were true...and felt a confirmation of that. In the other churches I attended, I was never taught to pray and ask the Lord if their teachings were true....and I loved the idea that my Heavenly Father would tell me and give me guidance. He did...and my life has been so blessed. I am so grateful to be a Mormon and for my knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have been so blessed by it... and I want everyone to have the same blessing.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by daily trying to study the scriptures and learn more about my Savior, Jesus Christ. We also study as a family and I feel like it is so important to teach these things to my children. We have the most amazing conversations and lessons at home and they are among my favorite memories. I pray several times a day and have gained such relationship with my Heavenly Father through prayer. I KNOW he is there...and answers our prayers. We attend church each sunday and I am responsible for the lessons and teaching of the children between 3 and 11 years old. I am not paid for my service, nor is anyone else in our church at all, but I LOVE WHAT I DO...and I look forward to preparing my lessons and watching the children's eyes light up as they learn about our Savior.

Who are the Mormons?

Mormons are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are your neighbors, friends, and people you see and interact with daily. We believe in Jesus Christ and follow his teachings. We are not perfect people, but try daily to live in harmony with his teachings and learn more about him. We are are a faithful people and find following Christ's example brings us happiness. We are often called Mormons because we believe in the Book of Mormon (as well as the Bible), which was recorded by prophets in the Americas during the same time the Bible was being recorded in the old world by prophets. Both books of scripture share Christ's teachings and compliment one another beautifully. Show more Show less
