Hi I'm Peggy

I'm a Coast Guard wife, mother of two girls, home educator, musician, news junkie, collector of kids art, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I classically educate my children at home. Cinnamon rolls are my weakness. My eldest child has a rare genetic disorder that is named after her. The hardest days are when I cannot not walk or stand because of my Lyme Disease. Home is where the Coast Guard sends us. I love design, photography and decorating. My favorite moments are when my husband and I and our children are all in the kitchen together making something delicious. I love doing family history and especially hunting for cemetaries.

Why I am a Mormon

When I met the missionaries over 25 years ago, they challenged me as a nine-year-old to read the Book of Mormon. I remember reading Moroni's words and feeling a peace and trust came over me. My young heart heard the spirit tell me that God had a message for us. Through all the prophets through time, His message never changed. He loves us and wants us to be like Him. He created a plan and we are a part of it. I knew that this book was written for our time and is part of Heavenly Father's plan for us. And I knew that a "marvelous work and a wonder" had occurred to help restore the Gospel to the earth. My faith is simple, but I love that feeling of knowing that I am unique and loved and vital to the work of salvation on this earth. That is emphasized as I raise a child with global delays and uncharted outcomes. She overcomes her trials with unconditional love, outstretched arms, and unending enthusiasm for each moment. I see God's plan in her come to light as I think about what our world could be like without her. She has a purpose to help others find strength in their trials and joy in their own journey. Also, my faith is supported by my spouse and partner who protects me from the gales of life as I overcome pain, fatigue and mental fog each day. Our covenants or promises made to one another in the Temple on our wedding day, help me keep an eternal perspective to endure and to not give up. Jesus Christ and His unfailing love for me is the central reason why I am a Mormon. I see His hand in my marriage, in my children, in the beauty of the earth, in our schoolwork, in scriptures, in the safety of our homes, the bounty of our pantry, the peace in our neighborhood. The dynamic, full-color, rich feast that is the Gospel helps me see my life the same way. Life is hard but it can still be beautiful. Jesus Christ makes my life beautiful.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by not giving up on it. It would be so easy to put my commitments on hold; to give my faith a raincheck. But I believe there is beauty in difficult things. Reading the Book of Mormon is not difficult. But asking God for confirmation can be. Especially when you have not talked to Him before. Faith takes courage. Courage is beautiful. I believe that Jesus Christ wants us to find joy as we journey on earth. When I apply my faith to the commandments He has given us and decide to act righteously, I feel happiness, peace and joy.
