Hi I'm Edgar Scholte

I grew up in the Netherlands. I live in the US with my American wife and my best choice in life was becoming a Mormon

About Me

I am 38 years old and lived my whole life in the Netherlands. I was raised with sports, sports and sports. That has always been and still is a big part of my life. I love being outdoors jump on my bike and enjoy nature and at the same time remain fit and becoming stronger. It helps me also to stay mentally and spiritually strong. I got married in 2009 with my American wife who I met in church in the Netherlands. I feel very blessed with her fun and wisdom in my life. We chose to live the first part of our married life in the Netherlands and early 2014 we made the decision to move (back) to California. I worked as a police detective in my native country which helped me develop certain people skills I am very grateful for. My wife and I haven't made the decision yet in trying to become parents. I was not raised in a religious way but I feel like I have always known there was a God. I became a member of the church in November 2010 after being introduced to the church a couple of years earlier by a previous girlfriend.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it is true. Having the spirit in my life helps me to become a better man. It helps me to endure and enjoy life even in hard times. I know the Gospel is restored and that the atonement has happened. I know it because I have felt it throughout my life. The atonement applies to my life. I needed it and it is comforting to know that Christ is so caring to do this for all of us. I simply love Him. What a joy it is to know that we not only have the Bible but also the Book of Mormon. A different prophet, a different country, a different family that Heavenly Father guided to fulfill His plans for the Latter Days. How amazing.

How I live my faith

One of the things I love the most is sharing the gospel after becoming a member. There are always moments where you don't want to talk about something, but the gospel is not one of them. I feel like it has blessed my life and it truly is my wish that others may feel the happiness it brings. One great joy and blessing is a feeling of freedom it brings and the ability of the gospel to change an individual. I have noticed in my life that when I become more faithful and when I try my best in following the commandments of Heavenly Father He will help me in becoming the man I would like to be and at the same time blessing me with both spiritual and temporal blessings. After becoming a member I served in the Amsterdam ward in the Netherlands. I was called as the young adult teacher. This means teaching members and sometimes visitors between the age of 18 and 30 years old. It was a calling I loved because it helped me to share the gospel which I love and at the same time it helped me to learn from examples from others as a respond to the topics I was able to teach. After that calling I was called to serve as the Young Man's president. This meant that I was blessed with helping the young men between the age of 12 and 18 years old become spiritually stronger. We started of with only one young man but after a whole year we had 7 to 8 active young men. It was simply amazing. It enriched my life to see young men being an example in life at a young age already.
