Hi I'm Harry

I grew up in Georgia and became a Mormon in Alabama at age 25

About Me

I spent 28 years as director of a computer software development department at Brigham Young University. I have been retired for 7 years and have never been more busy. I love to work outside in the summer taking care of the garden, fruit trees, grape vines, and other stuff that needs to be done. My wife and I have hiked on most of the mountains in our area, we have traveled to a few far away places, but mostly we enjoy driving on the back roads just to see what we can find.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a small Georgia town where the only two religions were Baptist and Methodist, and everyone in town was one or the other. I was a Baptist and attended church all of my life. By the time I was college age I had begun to feel that something was missing, that there were not many answers to questions, and that I was not getting much from the church. I had no thought that another church might have what I was missing, but I did start to read things and listen to radio programs that claimed to have some 'truth'. After college I was working in Alabama and started encountering people who were 'Mormons'. As I began to learn what they believed and what their church taught, it was like a light came on in my mind, and I soon knew that I had found answers to my questions, and I knew that I had found a church that could teach me truth. In other words, I had found the true church, that I had not realized I was looking for. I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1968 and I can honestly say that it has been the best thing that has ever happened in my life.

How I live my faith

I have spent the past three years helping others learn how to find and document their ancestors. Prior to that, I have served in many callings in my church. At the present time, my wife and I have been called to serve a full time mission in the Utah Provo Mission. We will be helping others to learn more about the church and assisting other missionaries in their work.
