Hi I'm Darla

I'm a Mormon, a Mother, a Grandmother, and a Missionary!

About Me

I am a retired public library clerk and school librarian. I have 8 children and 16 grandchildren, and I love doing things with them. We recently moved from Texas where none of our children live, to Utah where there are 6, and we share all kinds of events and happenings. I am a graduate of Brigham Young University with a major in Home Economics Education, which I chose to help me learn how to be a better homemaker in my own home, as I always wanted to have a large family. Then, when I needed to get a job at the time my youngest child was 8, I feel I was guided into library work, and I enjoyed that very much. I retired when my husband retired so that we could serve in the church as missionaries, and we did that for 18 months in Santiago, Chile, and then again for 14 months in Texas working with a Spanish Branch of the church. I love reading, sewing, soft music, fixing healthy meals and snacks, collecting recipes, pictures, and nativities. I also enjoy going places and doing things with my husband.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a rich heritage of several generations of Mormon ancestors on both my mother's and my fathers sides. I will always stay a Mormon because I deeply believe all the doctrines taught by the church and I know that the ordinances offered therein are very important to my eternal welfare and progression. I know that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and is the Son of God our Heavenly Father. I know that He lived on this earth and grew from grace to grace and was able to complete the difficult assignment given to him from his Father in Heaven to atone for the sins of all His other children on one condition, that they would repent and follow His teachings. I know Jesus Christ died for us, and I know he arose from the grave after 3 days, and that because He did this, I too will be resurrected and have my body again after I die. I know from experience that God hears and answers prayers. He loves me and every one of his children who have ever lived or will ever live on this earth. I know there is a purpose in our coming to this sphere. I know God sends prophets to help his people in all ages so they can know His will for them. I know there is a prophet on the earth at this time, and his name is Thomas S. Monson. I know that the church was restored through the instrumentality of Joseph Smith, and it is the same as the Church organized by Jesus Christ himself when he lived on the earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and is a wonderful gift to help us become converted and understand the truths he has for us in the fullness of the gospel. It helps us to understand the Bible and proves that it is true.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of the church all my life and have always been very active. The church was my "rock" of stability and continuity through many different moves when I was growing up. I could always depend on the church to be the same wherever I lived, and people treated me kindly and helped me to grow and develop and learn true principles. My parents restricted many of my school activities, but not my church activities. Knowing I was part of something wonderful, I never wanted to stop going, even when I was asked to do something I didn't feel capable of doing. I found if I tried to do my best, things worked out fine. I've served in many callings in the children's, youth, and women's organizations including leadership positions in all of them. I have taught gospel classes for all age groups, led choirs and congregations in singing, and done other types of duties. Now I still attend the 3 hour block of meetings every Sunday, as well as other meetings through the week. I regularly go to visit other women who may be new or sick or otherwise in need. I love to attend all conferences and events sponsored by the church, and my life has been greatly enriched as I learn new things and try to follow the advice given by our leaders. My husband and I have recently applied to go on another mission and we are happy to be starting on that this month. I believe that it is my responsibility to share the gospel and help others to learn about all the blessings that can be theirs with membership in Jesus Christ's church--blessings in this life as well as the next life.
