Hi I'm Jim Herrick

I am a retired insurance underwriter. I enjoy reading, playing with a camera & serving in the temples of the Church.

About Me

I am a retired property/ casualty underwriter. I was born in Arizona. I have lived in Utah, California, Washington, Oregon, Texas and now Idaho. I have a beautiful, charming wife. Between us (this is our second marriage) we have eight children and 13 grandchildren. I have found a lot of joy working with my wife searching for ancestors and attending the temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the temple I gained a much deeper testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. His love and compassion for all of our Heavenly Father’s children is overwhelming.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the Church. It’s program offers salvation to all of God’s children. We live in a world where many of God’s children live in conditions where they can not learn about the Savior. What happens to them? Are they lost? The temples of the Church answer those questions. Temples are sacred buildings where we may go and be married under God’s authority for both time and for all eternity. We may also go there and perform vicarious gospel ordinances for and in behalf of our dead ancestors. We learn from revelations given to Joseph Smith that at death ,our spirit which gave our physical body life, leaves our body and goes to a spiritual world where we can still learn and progress until the time of our resurrection. During the three days Saviors body was in the tomb He went into the spirit world and visited with those who had been righteous and kept his commandments during their time on earth. He organized them into a missionary force to go forth and teach those who had not been able to learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this life. They are taught about the Savior and the need to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost. They realize they cannot be baptized in person as they no longer have a physical body. They learn that temples have been erected on earth where vicarious baptism may be done for and in behalf of those who are dead. That may seem to some a strange doctrine. The apostle Paul taught it to the Corinthians. In 1st Corinthians 15:29,he states, “Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead.” I currently serve in one of the temples of the Church. I can testify that the Lord commands temples to be erected so that the His saving work may be extended to all His children. If you want to find Jesus Christ on deeper more personal level come to the Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I seek the Lord daily in personal prayer. I end each day praying with my wife. Prayer has taught me that our Father in Heaven listens to us and blesses us according to our need. I have both participated in and helped organize Church activities. I have had opportunities to work with our missionaries. I strive to be a good neighbor and a good member of the community. I love my faith due to the witness of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer; and Joseph Smith was His prophet called to restore the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. I have not just received one witness, but many through my life that continue to confirm that the Church is true. Those experiences have produced happiness, joy and purpose to my life.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Jim Herrick
The Savior is absolutly wonderful. Inviting Him into our lives brings improvement in all aspects of our life. Working with Him helps us understand and deal more effectively with our spouse and children. Having the Lord in our life gives us better direction. As we study His life we learn that the Savior always looked for ways to life people up. We learn that He wants to life us up. That knowledge gives us a good guide to want to life our family and friends up. The best way I know of how to come close to the Lord is through His Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Show more Show less
