Hi I'm Matt

I grew up in St. Louis. #1 Cardinal's fan and an avid runner. Currently serving as a missionary in Argentina. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying neuroscience, and I hope to someday work in healthcare as a physician. I really love running and I competed in cross country and track in high school. I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially going hiking and running on trails. I am also a huge baseball fan (Go Cards!). I have been called to serve as missionary in the Argentina Córdoba mission, where I will serve from July 2014 to 2016.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church, but it wasn't until I first read the Book of Mormon all the way through that I truly had a testimony of the gospel. I had grown up reading the scriptures with my family and learning about them at church, but I had never put forth the effort to read the book cover to cover. I started off slowly and wasn't perfect at reading every day, but as I read the scriptures my testimony grew. I could see the blessings in my life and I knew that my Heavenly Father loved me and that the Book of Mormon contains the words of His prophets. I have felt sorrow for sins, but I have also felt the joy of my Heavenly Father's forgiveness. I know that repentance is real and that Jesus Christ is my Savior and He died for all of us. I know that Christ's church has been restored to the earth and that there are living prophets in our day. I know that Christ's sacrifice was for everyone, and that through Him we can be strengthened in tough times, and that He will come to us when we are in need. I have felt His love for me and I cannot deny it. His Atonement enables me to change and grow so that I can reach my potential, and through repentance I can cast off sins that weigh me down. The knowledge that through Christ I can move forward and have joy after times of sorrow is so valuable to me, and I hope that everyone can feel of His love and the peace it brings. I have a testimony of the Book of Mormon and I believe it to be true. I choose to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of the the wholeness of its gospel and because of the happiness that it brings to my life.

How I live my faith

My current responsibility in the church is to serve as a Family History coordinator. I assist people in finding more about their ancestors and where they came from. I believe this to be important work because I have a testimony that families can be together forever, and discovering who your ancestors were gives you the opportunity to be with your family forever by doing the temple work for them. In Matthew 16:19 Jesus talks to his apostles and gives them the sealing power so that "whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven." I know that the authority and power to do this is on the earth today, and that not only can we be bound to our families here on earth, but we can also bind families together across the veil of death. It makes me happy to know that I can be with my family forever, and I want everyone else to have that blessing, too.
