Hi I'm Michael Ottesen

I grew up in Washington. I'm a runner. I'm a college student at BYU. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the middle child of an amazing family with great parents and four other brothers. Growing up I found love in running and music. I have competed competitively in cross country and track since I started high school, and I continue to train hard for running. I spent many years learning to play piano and saxophone through lessons and school band. Though I no longer participate formally, I still enjoy the skills I gained, and the music I learned to appreciate. Currently, I am a college student at BYU studying Mechanical Engineering. Most of my time is spent studying, running and spending time with friends. I always look forward to meeting new people and being with my friends and family. I am pretty adventurous and outgoing. I jump on opportunities to go hiking, try something new, or travel. I do my best to live happily in hope that others will too.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, and have been active my whole life. This is not to say, however, that I don't choose to be a member of the church. There was a time as a teenager that I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing. So to see if the church was right for me, I decided to live the gospel completely and see how I felt. I have found that I am by far most happy when I am living the principles of the church. I feel God's love for me everyday, especially when I need it. I know that this church is Jesus Christ's restored church because I cannot read Joseph Smith's account of the First Vision without feeling the Holy Ghost testifying of its truthfulness. It is undeniable, and I can't ignore that. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that he did translate The Book of Mormon, which further testifies of Christ. I also know that God did not stop calling prophets, even now. We have a prophet on earth, and he speaks to us for God. Furthermore, I know that Jesus Christ suffered for our sins, so that we can be forgiven. I know that his suffering was for me. I have felt its healing power personally. I love my family, and I know that I will be able to live with them forever. I love God. And I love my Savior Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made for us.

How I live my faith

To start, I attend church every Sunday. In my young single adult ward, I am a teacher for the other men my age. However most of how I live my faith is in the things I do daily. I do my best to pray and read from the scriptures everyday. I also live a clean life by making good decisions based on keeping the commandments and standing by my morals. I think it is important to be an example of my beliefs by living them. I know that others notice what I do. I do my best to have a positive attitude in all aspects of my life. I know this helps me to enjoy life, and to not be a burden to others. I also pray and look for opportunities to help others. Though I do miss many chances to serve people, I know that even little acts make a difference. As Jesus Christ was the perfect example, I center him in my life. I know that as I try to be like him, I will be living my faith.
