Hi I'm Alicia

I grew up in southern California and love the beach and scuba diving.

About Me

My husband and I met when we were freshmen at BYU in Provo, Utah. I was a long way from home, in a much different climate and setting and it was great to meet a guy from California who shared my beliefs and interests. We have been happily married for 45 years. After my husband finished graduate school and fulfilled his commitment to the US Army, we settled in the Sacramento valley of California. We found it a great place to grow walnuts and kids. The best thing I have done in my life is being a mom. I love being a mom and one of the happiest days of my life was when I was able to quit my job and be a full time mom. I have had many adventures with my kids and have been places and done things I never would have done if I wasn't a mom. Now that my 6 children are all college graduates, married and have children of their own, I am loving being a grandma. I also have more time to pursue my hobbies which are gardening (there is nothing like fresh picked vegetables & fruit.), volunteering in my community, reading and scuba diving.

Why I am a Mormon

As I have gone through my life, I have learned that the only path to peace, fulfillment, and true happiness is by following the teachings of Jesus Christ. I know that my Father in Heaven loves me and has set a plan in motion to allow me to return to His presence. I know that Jesus Christ is His literal son and my Savior and Redeemer. I know that it is only through the grace and atonement of Christ that I can return to my Heavenly Father. I know that the teachings of Jesus Christ found in the Bible and the Book of Mormon are the pathway to Eternal Life. The Authority to act in the name of Jesus and perform the ordinances we need has been restored to the earth and is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My life has been greatly blessed as I have tried to follow the example of Christ by loving and serving others.

How I live my faith

I have taken many opportunities to do volunteer work in my community and have had lots of fun being involved in cub scouting. I have filled many positions locally and on the district and council levels including day camp director for several years but the most fun was being a den leader and working directly with boys. If you are looking for a great organization for boys and young men, BSA is your answer. Scouting teaches skills, team work, leadership and values. I currently am working with Hmong girls who are 12-18 years old. We meet each Sunday to learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and then on week days we learn life skills and just have fun. Last Saturday we spent most of the day at the mall - mostly trying on shoes. After that we went to our local Mormon temple and spent some time enjoying the quiet beauty of the temple grounds. It was quite a contrast between the two activities. These girls are so fun to be with. They have been trying to teach me to speak Hmong. I know how to say a few things but I'm sure my tones are way off. It is probably hard for them to keep a straight face when I talk in Hmong. I also enjoy being "Mrs. Bookbinder". I get to wear a butterfly costume, have a magic wand and read books to kindergartners and 1st graders at one of the local elementary schools. Right now, my husband and I are preparing to move to Arkansas to be missionaries for our Church. We will be doing service there and telling everyone who will listen about Jesus Christ. I want everyone to have the joy I have in my life.
