Hi I'm Alyx

I am a teacher. I am wife. I love creativity and health. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as the oldest child in a family with 5 children. My parents divorced when I was 15 years old, and I felt like I became the third parent. My mom worked, we only saw my dad every other weekend, and thus, many things became my responsibility. I was still an average teenager who participated in high school presidencies, loved theater and dance, strived to get good grades in challenging classes, and who loved to be with her friends and go on dates. But I also helped my siblings with homework, made chore charts, cleaned the house, made dinners, supervised my siblings play dates, and tried to enforce the house rules. I spent my first year of college driving from my mom's house to school to work every day so I could continue to help with my family. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies, focusing on child development and the psychology of happiness. I have started my own preschool where I love teaching. I am now married to a wonderful man who gives me greater strength than I could ever have on my own. I love to be creative in all different ways including painting, photography, interior design, and being a preschool teacher! I also love learning about health and fitness and incorporating that into my life- I have recently began teaching exercise classes and love to experiment with recipes. My husband and I also love to hike, go backpacking, and dancing in our living room. We hope to welcome a little baby into our lives soon.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because it gives me happiness and strength. Throughout the challenges, trials, and sadness that I have experienced in my life, that have seemed to weigh me down with feelings of being overburdened and worthless, I have been able to turn to my Savior Jesus Christ and know that He is with me and there to lift me up. He has shown me how to overcome difficult situations, how to succeed in challenging feats and goals, and how to find joy when all seems dark. Being a member of His church has given me hope. It has given me purpose. It has given me the knowledge of my Savior, of my worth, and the knowledge that I can be with my husband and my family for all eternity.

How I live my faith

In my life I see myself living my faith mostly through personal and family responsibilities. I choose to pray often throughout each day, study scriptures and words from church and spiritual leaders, and dress in a way that I feel respects my Father in Heaven and my personal body. I live my faith by loving my family and friends unconditionally, and strengthening my marriage and other personal relationships. I participate in my church by leading the music in our Sunday meetings, visiting other women to share spiritual experiences and messages and to create friendships, and by planning a camp each year for the teenage girls to participate in and receive strength and power to overcome challenges in every day life.
