Hi I'm Michael Swanson

I grew up in east Idaho. I love adventures in the great outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just started college in January of 2013. It has been an exciting experience. I love writing stories and essays. My first love was reading, but soon turned to the outdoors. I love shooting, kayaking, swimming, cliff-jumping, hiking, and just about any exciting activity there is to do outside. I take life by the horns and any day that I don't do something new, exciting, or useful is a wasted opportunity. A couple years ago the summer became boring, so I started a crepe stand to pass the time. It caught on and I've been enjoying it ever since. I am now serving in the Taiwan, Taichung Mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the Church, but several years ago began to question anything about the Church and its doctrine that I could. I continued to attend my meetings and even held positions in various organizations within the Church. Though I had many doubts, I held to one belief, God answers our prayers regardless our religion. I put this to the test one morning as I sat in my car outside the temple while my friends had gone in for baptisms. I prayed for answers and faith for hours. I prayed about my concerns and laid myself completely before God. My answers did not come at all at once. I received a small confirmation that morning that a portion of the doctrine was true. Later that year, as I read my Bible, I received further confirmation that more of the doctrines of the Church were correct. As I read more in my Book of Mormon, I found a stronger faith in the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and the fullness of the restored gospel. My journey of faith has been a long one, but I know now beyond a doubt that Jesus is the Christ, and that He loves us. It is by God's grace alone that we are brought back to live with Him. I have had my faith shaken before, but I know the gospel to be true beyond a shadow of a doubt.

How I live my faith

When I was fourteen, my school started a Christmas charity and I participated in it. It started a passion in me, a passion to serve. Since, I have organized the charity and started several drives in my community. Last year, I organized a drive for food and clothing for a men's shelter. We gathered over a thousand pounds of food and clothing. I am now serving a mission in Taiwan, Taichung. I am speaking mandarin and devoting two years entirely to the Lord.
