Hi I'm Maryanne

I grew up in Alberta's oil production city. I'm a college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a very average human being, but through Christ, my life is becoming extraordinary. I'm a convert to the Church, after investigating it for about four years. I converted from Catholicism, and while it wasn't the easiest road, it was a decision I genuinely don't regret! I love video games, electronic dance music, long drives and nights out with friends in the country. My favorite tv show is Star Trek and my favorite superhero is Captain America. I don't really know where I'm headed in life but I know it's in a great direction. I'm currently getting a degree in Sociology with a minor in Political science, and I may or may not want to take over the world.

Why I am a Mormon

Going to the Catholic church I was raised in was not something I did willingly; rather, my parents had to bribe me into going with various means. My parents would drag me to mass every Sunday until I was about seven years old, wherein my parents stopped going as it was too much of a hassle. I didn't start going to church again until I was twelve, as my friend's parents would take me to various other denominations to experience what their churches were like. I didn't actually feel at home in any church until I went to my first Sacrament Meeting in 2010. My friend's family took me after a Saturday-night sleepover, and the love and joy I experienced from that family and from that day is something that stuck with me until this year (2014), when I finally got baptized. I am a Mormon because I know this is the one true church on Earth, through my own experiences and the testimonies of others. I am a Mormon because this faith is unlike any other when it comes to the compassion and community between members. I have not once felt out of place or unwanted at the Church, as members truly live what they preach and wish to spread the greatness of this Church with anyone who wishes to learn.

How I live my faith

When I was baptized, people often said I'd 'miss my old life' or now that my life was 'full of rules', I'd grow tired of it. I've honestly been so blessed through living the gospel and seeking only what's pure and righteous. I've made a lot of friends in church that have proven themselves to not only be respectful of who I am, but are also completely supportive of how I'm living. Living the gospel is made so easy by this church due to the awesome activities planned by groups within the church and the great opportunities that are given to network with other members and make new connections. Being a more righteous person only leads to more happiness and blessings along the way!
