Hi I'm Ashley

I love traveling. I'm a wife and a mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love experiencing new things, whether that be participating in a cultural tradition in a foreign country or seeing my children's faces light up as they help with the everyday tasks of life. Regardless of where I am or what I'm doing, I love finding the joy in each day, and my children keep my days full of laughter and surprises. Ultimately, I love helping others--my family, friends, and humanity at large. As a result, I have a background in international affairs and non-profit management. This desire to help others has led to many adventures, big and small, all over the world.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a freshman in college I learned the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God who restored the gospel of Jesus Christ as found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (i.e. "The Mormon Church"). This knowledge came from studying the Book of Mormon and praying to know of the truthfulness of these things. The answer to my prayers did not come immediately, but when it did, it was undeniable. I had a clarity of thought regarding questions I previously had. This clarity was accompanied by a warm feeling in my heart and a sense of peace that washed over me. I’m a Mormon because of this answer to prayer. I remain a Mormon because as I learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and apply it to my life there is an abiding sense of peace and joy through both the thick and thin of life. I have learned of that Jesus Christ is my Savior. Additionally, as I learn and apply the gospel in my life I continue to gain a deeper understanding of its truthfulness. God is my Heavenly Father and I am His child. I know He loves me. Each person who has ever lived on this earth is His child, and He loves us all. Because of His love for us, I know He created a Plan of Happiness that provides a way for us to live with Him again. Fundamental elements of that plan are 1) the reality of Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer; 2) our free agency (or, in other words, our ability to make choices for ourselves); and 3) covenants, such as baptism where we promise Heavenly Father "to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places" (Book of Mormon, Mosiah 18: 9). As I try to live by the precepts of the gospel and uphold the covenants I have made, even as I do so imperfectly, Heavenly Father blesses and sustains me. Heavenly Father loves each of His children, including you. As you seek for truth in your life, He will reveal it to you as you pray to Him for help and act upon the guidance you receive.

How I live my faith

Helping others is in large part how I live my faith. The Savior said, "If ye love me, feed my sheep" (Holy Bible, John 21: 16). Part of feeding His sheep, which is all of humanity, is serving them. I try to live each day keeping in mind that each person I come in contact with is a child of God who He loves. As such, I try to see them as Heavenly Father sees them and do what the Savior would do to help them draw closer to Him. In practice, this takes lots of different forms depending on the stage of my life. It means helping my husband and children even when I'm tired. It means wiping away the tears of a friend who has lost a loved one, and dropping by someone's house unannounced just to let them know I care about them. It means traveling to foreign countries to build schools, holding medical clinics, and volunteering at the local food bank. And, it means sharing my testimony that life has a purpose and that we all have a Heavenly Father who loves us more than we will ever comprehend.
