Hi I'm Mary

I love being outdoors, I speak Portuguese, I love spending time with my family, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently studying Recreation Management with an emphasis in International Studies. I love to do anything that permits me to be outdoors (camping, hiking, etc). Spending time with my family is one of the greater joys in my life. I served in the Brazil Fortaleza Mission and returned less than a year ago. I love to have new adventures, to read, cook, walk, to try new things!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as Mormons, simply because I know that it is true. I have knelt in prayer many times to ask if it is, and each time I have gotten a yes. I have experiences every day that testify to me that what I know is true. I have read the Book of Mormon and felt the truth that flows from this book. I have seen countless lives blessed by the gospel. I am a Mormon because a question that one 14-yr. old boy, Joseph Smith, had. Because of him, the true church has been restored. I am a member because this church has the same organization that Christ had in the church that He established when He was here on the earth, namely Prophets, Apostles, and the Power of God. I am a member because I know it is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in small and simple ways. I try every day to do the little things, like pray, read the scriptures, and to go to church every sunday. Of course I am not perfect, but I sure am trying to do these things. I also serve and help people, and in doing so, it helps me to feel a little bit of the love that Heavenly Father has for them. I am currently serving on the compassionate service committee in my ward, which helps others to feel loved and included. Before that, I was serving as the pianist in one of the classes.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

We believe in the Bible because we know it to be the word of God. It is an account of His dealings with His children from the beginning of time to just a bit after the Savior's death. We believe it because helps us to know how to become closer to our Father in Heaven, just as the Book of Mormon does. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony, put simply, is something you know to be true. We have a testimony that the sun rises because we know that it will every single day. Just as we know that, we can know that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints is true as well. A testimony is something that is ours alone, that no one can take away from us. It's what we know to be true. Show more Show less
