Do you want to chat with a missionary?

We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi I'm Alex Martinez

I went to school at BYU Hawaii. I love to sing. I love to laugh. I'm a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving in the California Anaheim Mission, from November 2015-May 2017. I am so happy to be sharing the gospel with the people of Southern California! Before my mission I went to school at BYU Hawaii for a year and I am planning on going back when I come home. I'm planning on majoring in International Cultural Studies with an emphasis in Communications. I love to sing and was in choir for most of my life. Music is one of my favorite things in the whole world! I miss being able to dance and drive around blasting music. I also love being outside and appreciating what God has created for us. I love to hike, go on walks, and swim.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because this faith is what has brought me genuine happiness. Although I was raised in the church, I have not always been as strong and faithful as I am now. I've spent most of my life believing but not knowing. I've always had a testimony of Christ and of his miracles, but it took me until high school to realize that I needed to gain my own testimony of Christ, latter-day prophets, and of the Book of Mormon, and not just automatically believe everything that I was being told. I spent lots of time praying, studying, and pondering. I eventually came to know through several spiritual experiences that it is all true. If you don't go out and search for your own testimony, you will never have one. In order to strengthen your testimony, you must feed it. I feel as though I have been spiritually fed through the scriptures I have read, the answers to prayers I have received, and the talks I have heard from the living prophet. I know that I have a strong testimony because of these things that I have done and felt. I know that I am a child of God. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me, and all of us. I cannot even fully express the gratitude that I have for this gospel. It has gotten me through so many tough times in my life. It has worked so many miracles. It has shown me the beauty of life and of this world. I hope that one day everyone who is willing will be able to hear about the greatness of it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be like Christ everyday. I read my scriptures each day. I pray to my Heavenly Father when I need guidance, which is everyday. I attend church every week and partake of the sacrament. I attend the temple as often as I can. I love to share the gospel. Sometimes it can be scary, but I know it's the right thing to do. I try to be an example at all times to those around me. I live my values and standards as best as I can and I try to always be a disciple of Christ. I am serving a full-time mission because I know that I am needed here in California to preach the gospel to those who may not have had the chance to hear about it yet. Nothing makes me happier than being able to share my main source of happiness with others.

Are Mormons Christians?

Alex Martinez
If not Christians, what else would we be? "Mormons" is just a word that has been used to describe us because it is easier to say and more commonly known than "Latter Day Saints". Of course, we are described as the Mormon church, but we refer to ourselves as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A Christian is a person who is a believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings. That is the main focus of our beliefs. We follow Christ and his teachings and strive to be like him each and everyday. That is what it means to be a Christian. So yes, Mormons [or Latter Day Saints] are Christians. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Alex Martinez
When Mormon missionaries visit your home, they will talk about Jesus Christ and His Atonement. They will teach about the plan of salvation, which gives everyone the opportunity to return to our Heavenly Father and be able to live with Him and their families for eternity. They will share uplifting messages with you and hopefully, will make you feel happy and welcome. Show more Show less
