Hi I'm Deric

I am a father of two, an orthopedic surgery resident, and a husband to one amazing woman.

About Me

I am a father of two wonderful children. I enjoy doing fixer upper projects in my free time as well as catching up on my favorite sports.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was in high school I decided to try to figure out if I was going to spend two years of my life teaching and helping others come to Christ instead of advancing myself towards my goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. In the ever competitive realm of medicine some would say that my decision to serve the people of Uruguay was a mistake. I completely disagree. To paraphrase, I decided to take the challenge in the Book of Mormon to read, ponder, and study the words that are written inside. The promise is that the Holy Ghost will testify to you that what you are reading is truth from God. As part of this, I committed myself to read from the book every single day. Sometimes it wasn't very much but even when I got home late after a football victory and party and all I wanted to do was crawl in bed and sleep, I read. While I read I kept a prayer in my heart that I would know for myself if this was a book from God. I will never forget the time when I was on my knees praying to my Father in Heaven, discussing my desires along with my efforts to understand His word. I began to feel a wonderful warmth deep within my core, a feeling that I have since recognized as the Holy Ghost. I have felt it many times since that day but I have not been able to reproduce it spontaneously. I can indeed say with firmness that I know that the Book of Mormon contains the word of God.

How I live my faith

I teach a group of about 20 men ages 19-60 once per month about the importance of spirituality in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Learning more about God and coming closer to Him allows us to reach an level of happiness unattainable otherwise.
