Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a stay-at-home mom. I serve as Stake Camp Director. I work as a DJ. I play lead guitar in a band. I am Mormon.

About Me

I graduated from college with a degree in Recreation Management. I put on events for hundreds of people before getting married and having kids. I have 3 girls and 1 boy. Now I still put on huge events for hundreds of people I just don't get paid for it. I have used my degree in my callings in the church longer now than I ever did in the work force. I love music. I love to listen to it and to play it. I play guitar in a band that consists of three families. All our kids participate. We visit schools and cub scout packs to teach them about music and let them experience "live" music. I have always DJ'd events but now I am employed by a company that pays me to do it. I am the "Clean DJ" in the biz. Any church group, school dance or religious engaged couple seek me out to play at their events. They know I won't play bad music with nasty lyrics or content. I haven't lost any money by refusing to play garbage, I promise you that! I also volunteer as the Drama Club advisor at my kids' elementary school. I write a musical each year and we practice and practice and practice, giving two big performances at the end of the year. I love action adventure novels and James Bond movies. I faithfully watch Top Chef and Project Runway. If I could invite anyone over for Sunday dinner it would be Sean Connery and Jimmy Fallon. Oh, and one more thing...I dyed part of my hair electric blue. Well, sometimes it's bright red.

Why I am a Mormon

I couldn't imagine my life with the Mormon church. Our beliefs are a part of everything I do and every decision I make. I am happier when I follow the teachings of my religion. My faith in my Savior has helped me through some dark, difficult times and has provided me comfort and hope when it didn't seem like there was any to be had. After the sudden death of my mother, my faith in eternal families kept me from losing control. My knowledge that I would see my mom again and be with her forever cleared the weight of the heavy loss from my shoulders. I KNOW that this church is true. I have no scientific proof. All I can tell you is that my growth as a productive person of society is due to my membership in this church. It teaches us to be more Christlike and think more of others than ourselves. What a great world this would be if more people followed that basic principle.

How I live my faith

Everything I do is tied into my faith and belief in our Savior, Jesus Christ. I don't feel that there should be any delineation of how I act based on where I am. I don't think that because I am doing something secular, like volunteering with the Drama Club, I shouldn't call upon and expect the blessings and help of my Heavenly Father. My religion doesn't dictate to me. My religion simply directs me. I find when I live by its precepts I am a happier person. It's pretty easy to choose the right when it leads to happiness and satisfaction. It's been very cool to be out in the world as a DJ and seeing that many others not of our faith have the same values. I have had to turn down people who want the clean DJ due to time constraints. So many valiant people are following Jesus all over the world. Mormons don't have the monopoly on righteousness! I am so lucky to be able to work with the youth in the church: thru Girls Camp, Mutual and now the Gilbert Temple Celebration. This generation is amazing and being with them is awesome. They too are going out in the world and making it a better place all while faithfully staying on the straight and narrow path.
