Hi I'm Sarah Jane

This world is amazing, and I CHOOSE to see the beauty & good in the world each day. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a student at BYU studying studio art! I love film scores, movies, lord of the rings, hiking, biking and climbing; I love being in nature and painting landscapes and seascapes because therein is where I feel my deepest connection to my Heavenly Father. He is in everything, and there is nowhere where His influence is more apparent than where the wind whistles through tall blades of grass, or in the thick rolling fog on the bay in the early morning. That is the reason I paint. To feel that connection with my Heavenly Father. I have an interesting background that I haven't shared too often, yet I have come to recognize that without my specific background, however initially difficult, I wouldn't be who I am and be where I am today without it; and knowing that, I wouldn't change my life for anything in the world. I was born into the LDS church, however my parents divorced very young and continued on to live extremely different lives. My father is still a member of the LDS church now with my wonderful step-mother, however my real mom is now an atheist and a lesbian. I won't lie, it wasn't easy at times coming to terms with such a drastic transition in my life, and it has definitely been an ongoing process. But I know that I can be such an influence for good and love in my mothers life by continuing to be in it. I may not agree with her on a few things, but she is my mother and has given me so much of her life and support, and I love her dearly.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into the LDS faith it has been quite the journey to get to where I am now. Because of my parents having very different beliefs I had a well rounded upbringing which allowed me to see very different walks of life, and allowed me to choose for myself what I wanted in life. Yet, something that has been undeniable is how blessed I have been with family, school, and friends. Especially friends. I have some amazingly supportive friends who I love with all my heart. Perhaps now I will share my personal conversion story and how I decided to go on a mission: In the 2013 October General Conference the announcement was made that any able young man could serve at the age of 18, and girls at 19. All of my best friends at the time were overjoyed at this news, and promptly began to prepare for the time when they would graduate High school and leave on their missions. At the time, I didn't think this age change would effect me at all, because for the entirety of my life I had never desired to serve a mission. However it astounded me to see all of my best friends receive their mission calls, and start changing from these young immature and sometimes reckless children into these men who truly loved God. It perplexed me for although I had always gone to sunday school, and been interested in the doctrine and history of the church, and though I felt like I was pretty spiritual I had never felt as close to God as it seemed my friends were becoming. I'm sure it wasn't all as fine and dandy as I'm making it sound, for I am sure they were constantly going through their own struggles and wrestlings with God, but it triggered in me a deep desire to come to know my Heavenly Father. So I started reading the Book of Mormon, and praying with all of my heart to come to know my Savior. And I testify to you that if you desire to find truth, that it will be found by reading the Book of Mormon for yourself and by getting on your knees and turning your heart unto God in prayer.

How I live my faith

I am a student at Brigham Young University studying studio art, however I have made the decision to take the next 18 months of my life and dedicate all my time, energy, and heart to the Lord and serve an LDS mission. I have been called to serve in the Adriatic South mission which covers Kosovo, Albania, and Macedonia. I have chosen to put my life on hold and dedicate my time to the spreading of this gospel because I have felt the power of its blessings in my life and I desperately want to share my knowledge, faith, and love of it with everyone I possibly can.
