Hi I'm Rethlyn

I was born and still live in Washington State. I'm a student, daughter, and sister. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello, I'm Rethlyn. I am a junior in high school and currently enrolled in a couple of college classes. I love history, keeping up with current events and writing. I was an only child until my brother was born when I was eleven. I also enjoy deepening my knowledge of the gospel by attending seminary, church services, and studying the scriptures.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but by the time I was in middle school I wanted to gain a knowledge of the church's teachings myself. I started studying the scriptures and paying attention in my church classes. I was able to learn that God sent is Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we could return to live with them. I also learned of the restoration of the gospel which is led by Jesus Christ. Within the last couple of years I have really come to know Christ. The church teaches that Jesus Christ died and atoned for everyone's sins. It wasn't until recently that I understood what that meant. Because Christ suffered for all of our sins and sorrows, he knows how we are feeling at all times, whether we are sad, depressed, or ill. With this knowledge I have been able to get through trials - big or small - because I know that I have a Savior who understands and will comfort me in times of need. I know that the Church of Latter-day Saints is true because Joseph Smith was able to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ so that we can know the reason of our purpose here on earth. We have been given the Book of Mormon to use as a map to help us draw closer to Christ and live more like him, and I have benefited greatly by studying and following the teachings in it. Being a member of Christ's church has helped me gain an understanding that I am a daughter of God, and I am here today to be tested and to further grow and improve myself, and that Heavenly Father gave us His only begotten Son so that we would be able to know where to go and have the chance to live with them again.

How I live my faith

Every morning I attend a class for the youth in my church. I am able to play piano when we sing hymns, which has really helped me practice and better my skills. I also help others complete their family history in the family history center in our church building as a family history consultant. I enjoy working on my own family history as well because it helps me understand where I came from which gives me an idea of who my ancestors are. My faith has influenced many things in my life. I have been able to avoid activities that would harm myself and my future because I have followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. I am able to see my potential as a daughter of God rather than getting caught up with what the world wants me to do. My faith affects every aspect of my life because it has helped draw out a safe path of good decisions I can make everyday.
