Hi I'm Ben

I'm a performer, artist, and studying to be a neurochemist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 20-year-old Utah native, though I was born on the East Coast in Delaware. I enjoy spending time with friends, attending theatre productions, playing video games, listening to and making music, SCUBA diving, and dancing. I'm a student at BYU majoring in Music Dance Theatre, though I plan on attending medical school to study Neuroscience after I get my undergraduate degree. Right now, I'm in Tokyo serving a mission, trying to share the joy this Gospel has brought to me with others.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Latter-Day Saint because I've found more happiness when living its precepts than at any other time in my life. For years, I did not have a belief of the Church's truthfulness. During that time, I struggled to retain feelings of happiness. Something was always missing. Even though I had heard about God and the Restoration, I did not believe it. However, when I chose to earnestly study the Book of Mormon, I saw a significant change in my life. I became happier. My relationships became more positive. I began focusing more on other people, and how I could help them. As I acted upon the knowledge that had been given to me, I began to understand it. With that understanding came a deep and abiding happiness unlike anything I'd ever felt. This change was significant to me, especially due to my interest in the human mind. I could not understand why I would be changing without acting in a way that would make me change. And yet, within the teachings of prophets, I continually saw promises that those who act upon the word will find joy. I chose to act, and I received a personal witness that those words were true. I chose to ask, and I now know without a doubt that God lives, that He loves me, and that I am His child. Because I chose to follow Christ, my life changed. Because I still choose to do so, I continue to improve. Now, I spend every day working to deepen my own relationship with my Brother and Savior. I share about what I have learned out of a deep love that God has helped me to feel. I know that I can find forgiveness, love, mercy, and justice in Him. I know that I am a member of a Church that is led by living prophets. I know that they hold the authority to lead and direct the affairs of God upon this earth. Although the Church and its leaders will never be perfect, I know that they have the authority to speak the will of God. Even though being a Latter Day Saint will not always be easy, I have the witness of God that I am doing what He would have me do.

How I live my faith

I try to understand every day what I can do to become a better person. I do so through prayer, studying the scriptures, and talking openly with others. I share what I have learned, and I earnestly try to learn more about the world around me in order to help others. I deeply believe that "the glory of God is intelligence", and so I strive to learn all I can. After that, I act upon what I have learned to improve myself. This helps me become more able to assist others.
