Hi I'm Sam Jones

I'm a husband, lawyer, and former professional musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love music. I have played guitar since I was 11 years old, and studied music in college. I love anything guitar related. I used to teach guitar and gig professionally, but now I just write and record my own music on the side. My other interests include exercise and reading about politics. In college I decided to become an entertainment lawyer, so I later attended Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. I recently passed the California Bar exam and am licensed to practice law in California. While attending law school, I met my wife and we were married in the Los Angeles temple. We both love food, traveling, British culture, vinyl records, good TV shows, and the Beatles.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this church is true and because I know the peace and joy that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings. I have faced a number of difficulties in my life, one of the biggest for me was my parents getting divorced when I was a teenager. This was a difficult time in my life, but I came to know that the peace and joy of the gospel are real feelings, just as much if not more than the everyday emotions we experience on our own. I have seen the joy that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings to those who previously did not have it. I have seen the change that comes into their lives. These are real feelings with real power to change people. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and that because of Him, I can feel peace and joy despite the difficulties happening in my life. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Being a Mormon is not often convenient, and can require difficult things of you, but that is how we grow in this life. I am a Mormon because it is an anchor to my soul in a world that has no idea what it is really doing and is destroying itself in the process. I am a Mormon because I want to be with my incredible wife for time and for all eternity, and with the children we will have in the future. I am a Mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church upon the face of the whole earth.

How I live my faith

I am a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts aged 12-17. I help make sure they get their merit badges and have good experiences with the Scouting program and develop skills that help them to become good members of the community. I also act as an an advisor to the young men in our local congregation to help them grow up to become good members of the church, good future fathers and husbands, and just to be happy. I was a missionary in South Korea from 2003-2005, wherein I learned the Korean language as best as I could and tried to share the message of our church. I try to visit with members of my local congregation regularly in their homes to share messages of the gospel with them, get to know them and otherwise just provide support for them as they face their life's challenges.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Sam Jones
We believe that we are saved by the grace of Jesus Christ, period. It is Christ who saves us, not us or our works. We also believe though that there is more to life than being saved. We are learning also to become like God Himself. Grace allows us to learn how to become like Him despite our mistakes we make along the way. To experience the true joy that He experiences, we must become like Him. And to become like Him, we must try to live our lives as He would have us live them. Show more Show less
