Hi I'm Matt

I'm a student at BYU, I've been called to serve a mission in Bulgaria, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I played baseball for 12 years throughout my childhood, but quit to pursue running for my high school. I work at a local grocery store as a bagger. I am a Freshman at BYU and I am studying exercise science with a current goal of pursuing Optometry. I received a mission call to serve the people in Bulgaria for the next two years and I am so excited to go there and teach people about our Savior Jesus Christ!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church and was raised solely on the doctrine of Mormonism. I had always thought that it was a nice thing to believe in but never really had a testimony for my own. I came to a point in my life where I needed to stop believing in the testimonies of my parents, and start learning for myself what this gospel is about. When I was about 14 years old, I accepted the invitation from a friend to read the Book of Mormon in the month of December. I read for hours every day and "feasted upon the words of Christ" (2 Nephi 32:3) At the end of the challenge I followed the promise at the end of Moroni and prayed to know if the book was true. I didn't hear a voice, nor did I see an angel. I did however feel a very strong and powerful feeling that rushed over me and gave me the confirmation that the Book of Mormon is true. I know without a doubt that this church is true and that it is led by a true and living prophet. This is the same church that was established by Christ during His earthly ministry and was restored to the earth through Joseph Smith. I have felt the spirit confirm to me that this church is true too many times to deny it. I know that this is the only way whereby we can return to our Heavenly Father again and live with Him and our families for eternity. The gospel of Jesus Christ blesses individuals and strengthens families.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my best to be an example of Christ. I go to church every Sunday and I am active in the leadership positions I have been called to within my ward. I strive to read my scriptures daily and always remember the things that I am taught in the church. Through my job I am supposed to always be customer service minded and I am told to go out of my way to serve others. I began the job timid and awkward as I fulfilled this responsibility. I helped others because I knew I had to and not because I wanted to. Now, I look for opportunities to serve my customers and I do it without a reward. I find myself helping others because I WANT to make the lives of others easier. I enjoy this because I can feel the love that The Lord has for my fellow men, and for me. I am trying to be an example of Christ in all that I do in my life. Even though I go to a school where most people share my beliefs and values, I still think it's important to show the people around me that I have a testimony of Christ and that I know that He lives. I try my best to serve the people around me and to be there for them if they need help. While I am a missionary, I am making a special effort to be Christlike in all that I do so that I can help other people see that following the gospel of Jesus Christ brings blessings into our lives.
