Hi I'm Tonna

I grew up in Utah. I love music, the mountains and being a "stay-at-home Mom". I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married and have two sons. I play the piano and love singing. My husband is a band teacher and my oldest son is in marching band, so we spend a lot of time at concerts, festivals and competitions. My life is filled with music! I graduated from college and got married at age 21. I have been a homemaker for 17 years now and would not have it any other way. I know that this is what God wants me to be doing with my life and that the time I am able to spend with my boys is more valuable than any other job that I could be doing. My boys are pretty self-sufficient now since they are both in Jr. High, but I know that it is still important for me to be at the "crossroads" in their lives and to talk with them when they return home from school, etc. I love reading books, sewing, quilting, crocheting, cross-stitching, organizing & cooking. I especially love going on walks with my dog, a white labrador retriever. He keeps me company while my kids are at school. I was always scared to death of dogs until a year and a half ago when we felt prompted to buy a dog. I now LOVE dogs. My dog, Boomer, is now a constant reminder to me that I can overcome my fears, even if they have been life long fears. I have struggled through many, many health problems, such as fibromyalgia, for the past 20 years. It has been very hard and my life has definitely turned out differently than I had planned (I only have 2 children when I had wanted 6) but life is good. God knew what experiences I needed.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the gospel has blessed my life immensely. I do not know what I would do without it. I know that God loves me. I know that He knows me personally & has a plan for my life. I see God's tender mercies all of the time & know that He guides me & answers my prayers. I feel the spirit & God's love when I am at church meetings or singing the hymns. I have a testimony that this is the true church upon the earth & that it was restored by the prophet Joseph Smith. I know that we have a living prophet upon the earth today who receives revelation from God. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior & that if I turn to Him, the power of the Atonement can help me be forgiven of my sins. I also know that the enabling power of the Atonement can help me overcome ANY problem I face during my lifetime and can bring me comfort and peace and help me to be able to return to live with God some day. I know that families can be together forever (even after our lives here upon the earth are over) and that I have been sealed to my family in the temple through the power of the priesthood. I know that God hears and answers my prayers. I know that we are not left here to go through life alone. God is always there for us and He has also blessed us with many people at church who can support & help us, especially through the Visiting Teaching & Home Teaching programs. I know that I have received personal revelation to help me and my family. I know that there are people/angels in Heaven who love all of us and are cheering us on and helping us. I know that the Book of Mormon is true & that it will bless our lives when we read it. I know that God always keeps his promises and the covenants which we make with Him and that everything will work out for the best in the end. Life is definitely hard at times for everyone, but it will all be worth it if we do our best to be righteous. God loves us. We are His children. He wants us back & I know that we can return. I know this church is true.

How I live my faith

My faith is very important to me. It is the central part of my life. I attend church every Sunday with my family for three hours & also make sure that my sons attend their additional youth activities once a week. I lead the music during the first hour of church & plan special musical numbers & participate in the choir. I used to be in a Presidency which helped the women in our ward & I have also taught the youth & had callings to play the piano. I love the strength that I feel from the members of my ward. We are all needed, no matter what our callings are & we receive support from one another at church activities. I strive my best to serve my neighbors and to help those in need. I know that my family receives blessings from always paying our tithing and fast offerings. I try to read the scriptures together with my family every night & have daily family prayer (even if it is in the car right before driving to school). We also spend Monday nights together as a family. I know that these small things help to strengthen my family & are very important. I love reading the scriptures, both the Bible & the Book of Mormon & I have received answers to prayers many, many times while reading. I also like listening to the scriptures on tape while I get ready for the day. Even if I have a very busy day sometimes, there is still time to listen to the scriptures while I put on my makeup & do my hair. It is so important for me to not miss my scripture study. We have been promised so many blessings to our families if we will make the scriptures a part of our lives. In the April 1980 General Conference, Pres. Romney spoke of reading scriptures & how the spirit of reverence will increase, mutual respect & consideration for each other would grow, the spirit of contention will depart, parents will counsel their children in greater love and wisdom, children will be more responsive & submissive to the counsel of their parents & righteousness will increase, etc. We all need these blessings.
