Hi I'm George

I'm a laser physicist, a husband, father of 4, an artist, a teacher and I love to make people laugh. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, a father, a grandfather, a physicist, a teacher, and yes... I am a rocket scientist. I enjoy drawing in ink and pencil, painting, sculpture and all types of creative art. I enjoy writing. I am the father of four wonderful children (2 boys and 2 girls) and the grandfather of a one year old boy. I love hearing from my kids and getting pictures of them and the things they are doing. I love spending time with my wife - my best friend and the love of my life. It doesn't matter what we are doing; watching a movie, going for a drive, hiking a beautiful nature trail, working in the yard, cleaning the house, or doing dishes - as long as we are together. I have a Master of Science Degree in laser physics. I love science and enjoy sharing that passion with others. I taught physics as an adjunct professor for nine and a half years and have tutored numerous students in physics, math, and other subjects. I have worked in the aerospace industry for more than 28 years developing sensors for rocket engines, developing laser-based sensors, developing algorithms for kinetic energy weapons, and developing high energy laser systems.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and so have always had faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. However, when I was 14, I began to worry that my belief was not enough. To find an answer to my questions, I read the Book of Mormon cover to cover and took to heart the challenge given in the book to pray, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." I prayed for several hours, becoming more humble and praying with a more "sincere heart" and greater "intent" as time went on. Suddenly a voice, calm and clear spoke to me (whether audible or directly to my mind I couldn't tell) and told me that the Book of Mormon was true and that Joseph Smith was his prophet of the restoration of the true gospel in the fullness of times. I was instantly filled with the spirit and felt as though my body and heart were full of fire. It felt like my spirit had expanded beyond my body. My mind was more clear than ever and I knew with every fiber of my being that what the voice spoke to me was true. There was no doubt left. I also knew that he who spoke was my Savior, Jesus Christ. I went on to pray for a testimony of the Godhead. The Savior testified to me that he and his father were real and separate beings of flesh and bone, truly a father and a son, that they loved me and that the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit. The feeling was so intense to be almost overwhelming. I can't describe the peace, the joy or the clarity I mind or the overwhelming feeling of love that engulfed me, and I don't know how long I remained in that condition. I had the desire to share what had just happened to me with everyone who would listen and immediately shared with my parents. They were overjoyed to know that I now knew and understood.

How I live my faith

My wife and I organized the church Christmas party this past year. We had a great committee! It brought a lot of joy to see everything come together so well and to see the smiles and happiness on the faces of the very young to the very old. Giving service to others as the Savior did always brings growth and joy. One of the reasons I love our church so much is that we are provided many opportunities to serve others inside and outside the church. I am currently the mission leader for our congregation. I work with the members and the full-time missionaries to help bring back those that have lost their way and to share the wonderful message of the gospel with those who are ready to listen.
