Hi I'm Lauren

I'm a Texan who loves art, movies, history, Mexican food, and my little siblings. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am currently serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Temple Square, and I love it! Before I began serving my mission, I attended Brigham Young University-Idaho. I plan on returning there after my mission and obtaining a degree in communications, with an interest in art. I love to doodle and watch movies with my friends and family. I was a waitress at a Mexican restaurant over the summer and I really enjoyed it and learned a lot! I just wish I had also learned Spanish. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and am the oldest of four kids. My family members are my favorite people in the world. I love being the oldest child; I am so proud of my little siblings and love seeing them grow and learn and develop their talents.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church, but didn't come to believe its teachings until I was 12. That summer, I participated in a church production called Savior of The World, about the life of the Savior, and attended a church girls' camp. Although I had been raised in the church, I didn't know it was true until experiencing those events. I participated in them because everyone else my age did. But I didn't expect to feel the Spirit so strongly, as I did. It testified of Jesus Christ and that the things that I had been taught and and raised with were true. I felt and came to know that God was real: that He loves me, that He had a son who died for me, and that if I loved him, I would do my best to be obedient to His commandments. By doing so, I know that I can live with Him and my family forever. I had never recognized the Spirit until that time, and the gospel hadn't really mattered in my life until then. Those experiences were the foundation of my testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ here on this earth. Since then, my testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel has grown. The more I study the gospel, the more my faith has grown, and my desire to become like Christ and be perfected in him has developed. There have been times where my faith in Jesus Christ was weak and I doubted. However, I know that the times in my life when I have been happiest have been when I am living the principles of the gospel, and as I develop my own personal understanding I feel happier and I know that it is true. Ultimately I am a Mormon because I know it is true. When I live the gospel of Jesus Christ it brings me greater joy than I could ever experience without it!

How I live my faith

The more I learn about Jesus Christ, the more I desire to become like him. I know that I am imperfect, but I strive to treat others-my brothers and sisters here on earth-as Christ would treat them. I am learning every day from the scriptures, from inspired leaders, from personal revelation, and from those around me what I can do to follow his example. I want to personally apply what I learn every day to my life. As a missionary, I am a representative of Jesus Christ. I love my Savior and want him to be proud of me and of the work that I do in his name. I know that I can serve him best as I share the truths that I know and have been given. I am constantly learning more and trying to nurture my faith in Jesus Christ, and I know that it grows as I live it and apply the Master's teachings to my own life.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Reading the scriptures brings you to a better understanding of our Heavenly Father and His work here on this earth. The scriptures teach us who we are, our purpose here on earth, and how we can obtain eternal happiness. The scriptures are based on revelation from God, who wants us to know Him and come closer to Him. Prayer in accompaniment with scripture study can increase our understanding and ability to receive blessings. They also show us how much our Father loves us; He has given us the scriptures so that we can be guided to make the best choices, for now as well as eternally. He wants us to be happy, and the scriptures are tools we can use to accept that plan. Show more Show less
