Hi I'm Marilyn

I grew up in Ontario, Canada. I have worked several years in scouting. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy reading biographies and historical fiction. I love scouting and am currently serving as a Group Commissioner for my local LDS sponsor. I have been married for almost 31 years, and have two adult children who are living on their own. My daughter is a probation officer, and my son is a welder. I also have a pet cat named Smoky. I enjoy gardening and spending time outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

My ancestors were faithful Mennonites. My paternal grandfather converted to the Lutheran faith after meeting my grandmother. I was raised a Lutheran and went to church regularly through my childhood. As a young woman I converted to the Roman Catholic faith. My introduction to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began with a Religious Studies course at St. Jerome's College affiliated with the University of Waterloo. I chose the LDS Church as my main project in this course. I contacted the full-time missionaries of the LDS Church, who answered all of my questions for the project, and then invited me to learn more. I accepted their invitation, and was baptized about three months later. I enjoyed the emphasis that the Church places on the family, and also felt the converting influence of the Holy Ghost testifying the truthfulness of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I have served in several callings in my local LDS congregation (called a ward). These include serving children in our primary program in the nursery (18 months to 3 years old); as a teacher of ages 3 through 12. I also served as a Girls Achievement Director in charge of activities of young ladies aged 8 to 12. I have also been in charge of the Primary program, as well as one of the women's group leaders, both at the ward and multi-ward (called a stake) level. I have enjoyed all my callings but especially working with the children.
