Hi I'm Franklin

I grew up in Mainland China. I am a college student. Called to serve in the California Redlands Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Mainland China. I am the only child in my family. I left China at the age of 18 and came to the United States for college. I met two Mormon missionaries on campus and got baptized later that year. I am currently studying Electrical Engineering and aspire to be a patent attorney in the future. I love reading the New York Times, exploring different genres of music, and learning new things. I run, swim and rock climb. I enjoy tweaking my Nikon D5300 whenever I can to capture all the beautiful moments in life.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in Mainland China, I have never attended any church. Religion simply didn't play a role in my family, though I have always felt that something was missing in life. I first started to investigate the Church after reading an article on it during my junior year in high school; I was intrigued by its members' high moral standards and strict abstinence from certain substances. After arriving in the States and taking lessons with Mormon missionaries, I found the gospel taught in the Church very logical. It just makes sense to me that after hundreds of years of chasm between different religious denominations, God would restore His one true church on earth; it just makes sense to me that all of us would have a loving Heavenly Father who provides a way for us to reunite with Him after death; it just makes sense to me that God would call prophets on the earth today to guide and lead His children; It just makes sense to me that in order to overcome the demands of justice, Jesus Christ would have to carry out the Atonement so that all of us could be saved by His grace. Although I was convinced by the doctrines that the Church teaches, my true conversion didn't come until I read the Book of Mormon, kneeled down, and followed the admonition to "ask God... if these things are not true... with a sincere heart, with real intent" (Moroni 10:4). I received a clear answer that the Book of Mormon is true and this Church is true. God truly answers prayers. I was baptized soon after I received this confirmation and has become a better person by following Christ. This church makes me a better son, a better friend, a better student, and healthier mentally, emotionally, and physically.

How I live my faith

I read my scriptures (especially the Book of Mormon) every day, even if only for a few minutes, because I need the companionship of the Holy Ghost and feel closer to Christ. I also kneel down and pray every night before bed to communicate with God. In my local singles' congregation, I am a home-teacher for 5 young men and women. My companion and I visit them every month. We go to their apartments to see how they are doing. We always share a gospel message with them during our visit. We pray for their well-beings often and have both become good friends with them. When one of our home-teachees get sick or need spiritual support, we pay a visit and give that person a blessing. I remind myself every day that we are all children of a loving Heavenly Father; so I try my best to see everyone with divine potential and show charity and love just as our Father does.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Franklin
Mormons are not required to serve a mission, though there is a strong tradition of missionary service in the Church. Church members consider it a privilege to show their love for the Lord and other people by sharing the gospel. Missionaries generally begin serving when they are 18 to 19 years old and serve from 18 months to 2 years. I decided to serve a mission after having witnessed the great influence missionaries had brought into my life. I want to go out and share with others the happiness I've gained in this gospel. On my upcoming mission in California, I will be set apart as an official representative of Jesus Christ and invite others come onto Him. I believe that as I humbly and prayerfully serve the Lord in this labor of love among His children, I will help others, change lives, witness miracles, and receive greater blessings and happiness for my family.
