Hi I'm Dave

I'm a husband, father of four, physician, baseball coach, runner, reader, singer, and love yard work. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to work long, quiet hours doing yard work. I love to work with my awesome wife and kids along side me. I love the smell of a baseball field in summer, the feel of a glove on my hand, and the sound of a baseball popping into the glove. I have good memories of rehashing games with Dad late into the night. And I enjoy seeing the boys I coach have fun and improve. I like singing and listening to A Capella and similar music - especially a men's quartet or choir. Singing Handel's Messiah in the Omaha Symphonic Chorus and in the Knox Presbyterian Choir were highlights then. Singing lullabies to my kids is the greater highlight now. I enjoy my profession; the challenge of medicine, the good people I get to work with, and the opportunity to contribute to children's health and happiness. I like reading a good book. I prefer biographies, history, and historical fiction. Go, Dog. Go! and Curious George are pretty cool, too.

Why I am a Mormon

I've had some great examples of Christian living in my life, especially my dad - a life full of service to family, neighbors, and community, of caring for the fatherless and widows, of patience and love for the weak and wayward. I often went along with him and participated and experienced the love and power of God through the Holy Ghost. During periods of doubt as a youth and as an adult, I chose to continue to pray daily with as much faith as I could (sometimes little, but what I could) to Father in heaven in the name of Jesus Christ as taught by scriptures and by my parents and other good people I trusted. I remembered past personal experiences with spiritual things. I consciously chose to trust and follow the way of Jesus Christ as I understood it from scripture and from ancient and living prophets and apostles. As I continued to act/follow as a "doer of the word" and not just a "hearer," I had additional personal experience with the love and power of God through the Holy Ghost. I know from personal experience through the Holy Ghost that God lives and that He is my Father. He loves me, and I love Him. I accept Jesus Christ as His Only Begotten Son in the flesh and as my personal Savior. After years of studying both, I accept the Bible and the Book of Mormon as the word of God. They are inseparable. I have personal experience with the restored Priesthood of God that is in this Church and know it is real and true.

How I live my faith

I like to live my faith quietly. Quiet scripture study and prayer in the morning. A short scripture story and prayer with my family before I go to work. I do my best to remember and live Christian values throughout the day in my work and in the way I behave toward and talk with everyone I interact with. I try to do the same in the neighborhood, at the kids' school, on the ball field, and at church. Some days I do better than others. During 2013 I had the opportunity to teach Sunday school to a group of teenagers. Wow. What a great group! Their understanding of the scriptures, their practical application of the Gospel in daily life, and their solid commitment to live it were impressive - well above me at their age. Currently I get to help watch over and assist the full-time missionaries serving in our community. They're similarly impressive.
