Hi I'm Kala

I love to read, play piano, make desserts, and make people happy. I'm going on a full-time mission, and I’m a Mormon!

About Me

I have three fantastic younger brothers, an adorable little sister, and wonderful parents. Reading is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time, and some of my favorites are To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, and nonfiction books about how our bodies and brains work. I am also a huge fan of fairy tales, playing the piano, and spending time with my friends. I love learning, especially about microbiology. The way the world works is incredibly fascinating, and I want to leave it better than I found it. Cool quotes from people both famous and obscure make me pretty happy, but not as happy as weird words (arachibutyrophobia: the fear of having peanut butter stuck to the top of your mouth), chocolate, or laughing.

Why I am a Mormon

For the first part of my life, I was a Mormon just because my parents and grandparents were. As I grew up, I stopped taking things at face value and started questioning them more. Among the things I stopped accepting just because my parents told me it was so was my religion. I spent time thinking, analyzing, reading the Book of Mormon, and praying a lot during my middle school and early high school years. No one big thing ever really happened to me, but thousands of small things have helped me realize that God does exist and He loves me infinitely. I find joy in living the way Christ asks through scriptures and modern-day prophets. I know that God will always answer my prayers and that through the Atonement of Christ, I can live with Him and with my family again someday.

How I live my faith

As I go throughout my day, I try to make other people happy. Whether I’m doing a larger act of service or simply smiling at someone who is having a bad day, I try to remember that all of us are children of God and that God loves each person I come in contact with. As I do my best to live my faith more exactly, my relationships with other people improve and I become a better person. I am also going to serve as a full-time missionary, and I am so excited for the opportunity I have to share this gospel with more people than I would otherwise come in contact with!
