Hi I'm Melissa

It really is a wonderful life. I have chosen to be happy. I'm a mormon.

About Me

My family is my favorite thing. I guess I'm a mommy in the middle, and it's kinda fun. I'm not quite sure how it happened so fast, but after having 5 kids in 6 years, those infants are now in their late teens and early 20's with no infants of their own yet. We've traded diapers for volleyball gear, training wheels for driver permits, and ABC's for O-Chem and AP English. While I miss their "babyhood" I have to admit that having all these "neo-grownups" in my life is uniquely delightful. I used to wonder if I would ever get through sleepless nights as I comforted crying babies, especially the last two who are twins. Now I wonder if I will get through sleepless nights as I pray for adult and adolescent children who are making life defining decisions. Do parents always have sleepless nights? Maybe so. It's a good thing my partner in crime is my best friend and that he shares equally in all of this. While church service, keeping said hubby on his toes, quilting, traveling, reading, speed or racewalking, and consuming copious amounts of chocolate are things I love to do... Family really is my favorite.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church when my brother Alex and I were 5 and 7. As 1st generation converts we have had many unique gospel learning and growing experiences as a family, and Alex and I often remark that our parent's great work on this earth was to allow the missionaries into our home and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ into our lives. Having this upbringing sure helped a great deal in my own conversion, but it wasn't until my late teens and early 20's that I found out for myself that the restored gospel is true. Having a personal knowledge of my Savior and Heavenly Father and their love for me is very powerful and allows me to be truly happy. "...men are that they might have joy." 2 Nephi 2:25 ... that's why I'm a Mormon :)

How I live my faith

Church service is a vital part of my life. My husband and I have ALWAYS served, and we hope to be able to serve ALWAYS. While leadership positions over the women's, children's, and young women's groups at church have been some of the highlights of my life, I enjoy the unique privilege right now of teaching an early morning scripture study class called "Seminary". I meet with a group of 14-18 year old high school students for an hour each morning before they go to school and we study 4 books of scripture; the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of great Price. I love reading the scriptures and I continuously learn so much as I pray and ponder the things I've read. I love to study the Book of Mormon and the Bible together as they both testify of Christ.
