Hi I'm Madeline Miller

I'm a missionary. I'm an optimist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to be an author and write books. Along with writing I love art. I've been drawing and painting since forever and it is one of my favorite pass-times. I also love singing, acting, tennis, skiing, and laughing. I love this gospel so much. It has blessed my life in so many different ways. I feel the love of my Heavenly Father every time I pray and I feel the Spirit guide me in my life. I am so grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made so that we all can become clean and return to live with Him again.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and I have known my whole life that Heavenly Father and Jesus love me and want me to succeed. I've always believed the church is true, because it made sense. When I was younger though I struggled to recognize The Holy Ghost in my life and that bothered me. In ninth grade I started seminary, which is a class we can take to learn more about our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. My seminary teacher had us all find a quiet corner and read over the First Vision. He told us to pray beforehand and ask Heavenly Father if Joseph Smith really was a prophet and if the church was true. I was afraid that I wouldn't know, because I didn't know what the Spirit felt like. I prayed to Heavenly Father that I might be able to feel the Holy Ghost so I could know that these things were true. As I read over the First Vision I felt something wonderful inside me and I realized that I was feeling the Holy Ghost. It testified to me that day that Joseph Smith was a real prophet and that this church is true. I have never had a problem recognizing the Spirit ever again.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being a witness of God in all times, in all things, and in all places. I try to serve those around me and treat everyone kindly and with respect. I go to church to learn more about my Savior and to strengthen my testimony in this gospel. I know that as I do these things that I will be able to help others around me and I will be able to grow in my testimony as well.

What is the First Vision?

Madeline Miller
The First Vision is Joseph Smith's experience in the Sacred Grove. While growing up Joseph was surrounded by various churches who all claimed to teach the truth. He was confused by all of the tension and wanted to know which church He should join. One day while reading the Bible he found the scripture James 1:5 which says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given" This inspired him to go pray in a grove of trees near his home so that he might learn which church he should join. As he prayed Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him. Joseph was told to join none of the churches, because the church as Jesus had organized it and the priesthood authority had been lost. The First Vision led to the Restoration of Jesus's Church to the Earth. Show more Show less
