Hi I'm Mark Clayton

I live in scenic, sunny, southern Utah. I'm a professional counselor. I train missionaries. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I raised 5 kids. Two are married and having children. Grandchildren are the joy of life! Two are away at college. One is on a Mormon mission in Indiana. Hearing from our missionary son is very rewarding. His mission is an adventure full of heart warming opportunities to teach people the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the 4th of our 5 kids to leave home and go out into the world to teach about Jesus. My wife went to Colombia, I went to Quebec, our children served in Germany, the Philippines, Argentina, and now Indiana.

Why I am a Mormon

I began reading about Joseph Smith when I was a teenager. He prayed about religion when he was a teen and was called as a prophet. I had heard this story as a kid but had not thought much about whether it was true nor had I read much about Joseph Smith and his writings and revelations. I found that the more I read the more compelling the evidence was that Joseph was a prophet. I read the Book of Mormon which is an ancient American record of scripture. I also read the Bible. I found these two books of scripture to contain the same scriptural power and feeling. I read the compilation of revelations Joseph received. I read the history of what happened to Joseph and the church he restored. Through all this study there was a spirit and power that was compelling and real. I came to love God and Christ as taught in the Bible and found that same spiritual power in the further teachings of the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith's revelations. I wanted to dedicate my life to being a disciple of the Master. I wanted to take the further teachings, scripture, and living church that had come through a modern prophet to the world. I accepted a mission call while I was 18 years old and went to Canada after finishing High School at age 19. I have been involved as missionary and missionary trainer ever since.

How I live my faith

I provide training for about 50 young preparing missionaries each week who will be called to serve throughout the world. They are teenagers finishing high school and looking forward to their missions. I also provide training for about 30 members of our church who live here in Southern Utah and serve as missionaries in their own neighborhoods. So my life is full of missionaries! We even have a couple of missionaries living in our basement apartment! They come from all over the world to be missionaries here in Utah. We have had some from small pacific Islands, others from Europe, and some from various states in the United States. Basically from all over the world. It is exciting to meet them and hear their stories. I never thought I would be so surrounded by missionaries!
