Hi I'm Melanie

I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am going to college right now. I am a Humanities major. History, art, philosophy, I love learning about it all. My favorite though is literature. I love reading but unfortunately never have time for it. It is my goal to read all of the classics someday. I also love fantasy and am a big Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Brandon Sanderson, etc. fan. I love food and have a terrible sweet tooth. This has fueled my love of cooking as well. My family is amazing and some of closest friends. I guess I'm a bit of an introvert because I definitely enjoy doing things in smaller groups and just staying in and watching movies, playing games.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I've grown up as a Mormon, I've still had to work hard for my testimony. I remember the first time I knew that Book of Mormon was true was when I was just six or seven. I was reading it on my bed (just a kid's version of one of the stories I think) and I felt an overwhelming sense of love and truth. I felt the Holy Ghost. Even though it happened so long ago I can still remember how it felt. It was beautiful and I knew that I would do whatever I could to keep feeling that. So when I was eight I got baptized. Ever since then I've tried to go to church and read my scriptures and pray as much as possible. I'm not perfect. It is very easy for me to slip into forgetting to say my prayer or just scanning through my scriptures. I've gotten tired of the seemingly countless church activities that they seem to have for us. But I've never been able to give it up. Every time I start slipping into those habits I just get so upset and tired. As soon as I start them again everything seems to fit back into place. Why am I a Mormon? Because I can't afford not to be. I mess up so much and feel so lost and confused or hurt or scared sometimes that I need the Savior's Atonement and the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life. I know that living my life in a way that I can have those blessings is the only way I will be truly happy.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite ways to serve is by doing my visiting teaching. This basically means I get together with one of my friends and at least once a month we go and visit a couple of our other friends and share with them our testimonies. It is a great way to get to know people and serve them. I also am the "assistant music director" for the women's group in our ward. This basically means that I help pass out hymn books and pick the songs that we sing. Occasionally I get to lead the music. It isn't that important of a calling but it is just right for me. I love music, especially the hymns, and really feel that they help bring the Spirit and the love of Christ into our meeting.
