Hi I'm Kirk

I grew up in a small town in Kentucky. I love sports, my family and my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I married the most beautiful woman in 2004. She is beautiful inside and out. I am lucky to have her! We have three beautiful, fun loving children. They make my life fun and tiring and bring me so much joy. My wife and I often ask each other what we would ever do without kids. Life to us wouldn't seem complete or as fulfilling. I love sports and keep up with all sports. Basketball is my favorite and I am odd in that I like both Kentucky and Louisville.

Why I am a Mormon

As a youth I was very unsure of who I was, what I wanted or what I believed. But in my youth I wanted to figure out what I believed. To do so I began reading the Book of Mormon on a regular basis. I noticed that as I read, I began to feel differently. My desire to become better increased. It took me awhile to connect the dots but as I did I began to recognize that was the fruit of the spirit. As I continued to read I began to get answers to my prayers on a regular basis. As I approached the end of the Book of Mormon I knew that it contained a promise to each of us about how we could know if the things that we read were true. I decided that I would do as the promise asked and to "ask God if these are not true." As I did I felt a great sense of peace and comfort that I had not really felt before. It was not anything miraculous by biblical standards. The Red Sea was not parted, the earth didn't flood but I felt that Heavenly Father knew me and spoke to me in such a clear way. I can't answer every question or every detractor but I know that Heavenly Father answered my prayer and told me it was true. I have learned that man's ways are not God's way and vice versa and that I am ok with following God's ways. Once I knew the Book of Mormon was true I knew Joseph Smith was a prophet and that there was a prophet on the earth today. The rest fell into place and is very comfortable to accept and live at this point in my life.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith all of the time but as many things in life I come up short. I have worked with the youth a lot and they have taught me so much about living your faith and learning to live it. It is amazing the strength and courage that our youth have. I try to be diligent in whatever I am asked to do. I have found that if I work at things a little bit on a regular basis then I tend to focus better. I learned a lot about the Savior while serving a two year mission in the New Mexico Albuquerque Mission. It was an amazing experience that helped me to see every person as a son or daughter of God. I learned that we are all different but that Heavenly Father loves each of us, that he truly is no respecter of persons. I try to remember those things I learned on my mission and use them on a daily basis. I strive to treat people the way the Savior would. I know that through Christ I can be forgiven of my shortcomings and strive to become more like him daily.
