Hi I'm Zion

I grew up in Colorado, was an Army mechanic, a Navy submariner, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a happy father of two girls, a returning college student, a veteran, a divorcee, an amateur carpenter, a Master mechanic, and now on the cusp of a new career, I've seen a lot of different things.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I never believed that a loving God...a loving father...would give us so much guidance over 2,000 years ago and then just 'poof'...be gone. The Mormon church has an active and loving God which guides us today, an involved and loving brother in Jesus Christ, and members who can make mistakes but nearly always want to share their love with anyone who needs it, whether they know it or not.

How I live my faith

In my church, I am the Ward Mission Leader...so I help figure out how current members of the church can help people in the community learn more about our church. I also have many opportunities to help folks fix their homes, cars, and neighborhoods. As often, I get to host ping-pong tournaments...which I sometimes even win.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is simply an inspired bit of wisdom that said (over 100 years ago) that smoking is bad for you, drinking is bad for you, and eating healthy and natural food is good for you. Since it was first given to the church, we've also figured out that it applies pretty generally to anything that causes YOU to be less than your best...for me, it means soda. After I decided to consider soda against the Word of Wisdom for ME, it quickly became apparent I was truly addicted and didn't function well without the Dr. Because I don't want any substance to control me, I gave up soda completely and it's not only been a clear improvement to my health, but I'm better able to perform throughout the day...which happens to be a promise in the Word of Wisdom, provided you live up to its teachings. Soda is not against the Word of Wisdom, it is a personal thing to consider it as such. Show more Show less
